NBC NHL Flyers Host Blackhawks, Plus Roy Halladay Versus Josh Johnson

Blackhawks at Flyers, Marlins at Flyers: The City of Brotherly Love tops sports betting news tonight in both the Stanley Cup Finals and the marquee MLB odds game of the day says Bodog sportsbook.

The Stanley Cup Final Game 6 odds should get plenty of bets, as they represent Chicago's chance to end the NHL's longest title drought at 49 years.

The Blackhawks have Philadelphia on the ropes with a 3-2 series lead after they walloped the Flyers 7-4 in Game 5. The big story was Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton. He sparkled in the conference final against Montreal, posting three shutouts, but he's been a true rollercoaster in the Cup Final. He got pulled in Game 1 and again in Game 5 after the Hawks beat him three times in the first period.

Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette made a tough decision and named Leighton as his starter for Game 6. It's a controversial call but the Flyers have defied the odds all postseason and are 9-1 at home in the playoffs.

Expect runs to be at a premium tonight when Florida is at Philadelphia because two aces go at it in the Marlins' Josh Johnson and the Phillies' Roy Halladay. The Phils have opened as -165 on Bodog's MLB Odds with a microscopic total of 6.5 runs. You won't see a total get lower than that.

The last time Halladay faced Florida (May 29) things went pretty well as he threw a perfect game, striking out a season-high 11 batters. And Halladay (8-3, 2.03) also beat the Marlins back in April, holding them to two earned runs in eight innings. Johnson (6-2, 2.10) was on the mound that perfect game night and he was nearly as good, allowing just one run and striking out six in seven innings. In fact, in his past seven starts, Johnson's ERA is 1.37 and he has struck out 43 batters in 46 innings.

Philly was in a horrible offensive slump for a while but seems to have righted the ship at least somewhat, scoring 10 runs in Tuesday's comeback win over Florida. It was just the third time in the past 16 games that the Phils scored more than three runs. Philadelphia overcame deficits of 4-0 and 6-3 in its best offensive performance since a 12-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 17. The Phillies are just 7-13 since that victory.

Florida, meanwhile, is now 0-4 in its nine-game road trip and has lost five of six following a three-game win streak. You will want to check out Marlins outfielder Mike Stanton tonight. His debut Tuesday — 3-for-5 with two infield singles and two runs – was overshadowed by Stephen Strasburg's in Washington, but Stanton is considered one of the top handful of position prospects in MLB. He is a future star – the 20-year-old hit .311 with 21 homers and 52 RBIs in 52 minor-league games this season to earn a promotion.
