MLB Game Preview for July 6, 2010: New York Yankees @ Oakland A’s

Baseball fans and sports betting enthusiasts are keeping an eye on MLB betting as the season heads towards the All-Star break. After the All-Star break the college football betting starts to enter the picture, but there are pennant races to decide before that. Some teams like the Oakland A's are hanging on to their playoff hopes and trying to gain momentum before the break. Other teams like the New York Yankees are division leaders trying to keep their winning attitude intact.

The Oakland A's are eight games out of first place in the AL West, but they have won seven of their last 10 games. As the first place Texas Rangers continue to struggle, the A's are hoping to make up some ground before the All-Star break arrives.

The Yankees have been barely holding off the charging Boston Red Sox for the past couple of weeks. New York has a game and a half lead in the AL East, and have won six of their last 10 games including a two game winning streak. Even though the Yankees have been playing tough recently, just like NFL betting the outcomes of the games are determined on the field and not on paper.

C.C. Sabathia is starting for the Yankees in this game, and he brings his 10-3 record and 3.33 ERA to a game where the A's hitting has seen some success in the past few days. In the last seven days the A's have a team batting average of .268, 10 doubles and they have scored 28 runs. Oakland has been in the upper half of hitting stats in all of MLB in the last week.

The A's are putting 22-year old Trevor Cahill on the mound for this game, and Cahill has been a difference-maker this season. In his last nine starts he has held the opposition to a .194 batting average, has a 7-0 record and has posted a 2.12 ERA. For the season Cahill is 8-2 with a 2.74 ERA. He started out a little shaky this season, but he got himself on track quickly and has been an ace for the A's ever since.

In the month of June the Yankees went 7-4 on the road, including key wins in Toronto and Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The A's have a winning record at home but a losing record on the road, and their chances of making the playoffs hinge on starting a winning streak at home before the All-Star break.

The Yankees are not exactly rolling with momentum yet, but they are winning key road games as they pull into the mid-season break. The A's are struggling to win wherever they can, and Cahill could be a booster to the A's chances of getting into contention for the AL West, or for the AL Wild Card spot. If Sabathia has his best stuff in this game, the A's may need Cahill to pitch well for seven or eight innings.

Pick: New York Yankees 4-2
