MLB Wagering: White Sox-Twins Preview

Betting on college football won't get hot for about a month yet, but the annual second-half race for the American League Central crown is shaping up to be another good one, and two of the main contenders will square off on Thursday in Minnesota, where the Twins will host the Chicago White Sox, who had won eight in arrow before the All-Star break.

White Sox Twins Betting – Thursday, 8:10 PM ET

John Danks (8-7, 3.29) was a beast in his final start before the break, tossing a two-hit complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts as the White Sox blanked the Angels 1-0 at home.  Danks had been only subpar over his last few starts, and he may be counted more heavily over the second half as the injured Jake Peavy may miss the rest of the year.  The 25-year-old southpaw is 0-1 in two starts against the Twins this season with an ERA of 2.77, pushing his career record against them to 4-6 in 15 starts with a 5.03 ERA.  Danks is also 1-2 in six starts at the Metrodome with a 5.05 ERA.   Those betting NFL know how close the NFC East, well, the AL Central is similar, and the White Sox are going to need Danks to be top notch for the rest of year.

Kevin Slowey (8-5, 4.64) pitched two innings of relief in a 7-4 loss in Detroit, throwing zeroes across the board except for a strikeout.  He has been bothered by an ailing ankle, and in his previous start, Slowey had given up five runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings of a 6-5 loss in Toronto.  The 26-year-old took a loss as the Twins fell 5-2 at home to Chicago in May, as he was tagged for five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings.  Slowey is now 2-3 in seven games, including six starts, with a 5.66 ERA against the White Sox.

MLB betting odds should favor the Twins at home, where they have dropped the White Sox in seven of their last 10 meetings.  Slowey hasn't been consistent enough to put any faith in the Twins on Thursday, unless they get to Danks, which is possible considering his record against them.  But Danks may be the closest thing that the White Sox have to an ace heading into the second half of the year, as Peavy is hurt and Mark Buerhle has had his problems.  The White Sox had also won eight in a row heading into the All-Star break, and they're looking to carry some of that momentum into the second half.  Take the Chicago White Sox in your online sports betting picks on Thursday.
