Ervin Santana has electric stuff at times but other times the righty is pretty mediocre. Brett Cecil meanwhile may not have the arsenal of Santana but the Toronto lefthander has been sensational pretty much all season long, save about a three start poor run at the end of June, and is good enough to dazzle one more time today here at the Big A.
Cecil is 9-5 with a 3.62 ERA and has been complete money of late. I'm talking about 9 earned runs in his last six starts spanning 39 innings. The southpaw has also struck out 20 batters in his last three starts. This guy is no joke at all and with Shaun Marcum and Ricky Romero is starting to form a legitimate staff in the post Roy Halladay era.
Cito Gaston's club continues to pound the ball all over the field with Jose Bautista and his million home runs leading the way along with guys like Wells, Hill and Lind following suit. The jays may not make the playoffs but they are exceeding all expectations and after 115 or so games are turning out to be a high quality club.
Anaheim is not a bad team but they are not the Angels of old and are at the point of pretty much playing out the string as they teeter around that .500 mark. I like Abreu and Matsui and Hunter and Kendrick but all in all this team has been up and down and pretty much average. I'm not saying that Santana can't be really good today or that the Halos can't prevail here at home but the value is certainly on the visitors as they are the better team on this field and a club that I will back in a smallish play.
