NHL Odds: Penguins and Bruins Win Tonight Says Sports Handicapper

NHL Playoff odds and free picks for Wednesday, May 12. As the rest of the world overanalyzes LeBron James and the Miley Cyrus lap dancing, the top MLB baseball handicappers just pick winners.

Two NHL Playoffs series could send teams home tonight. First, a winner will definitely be settled between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, as they play Game 7 of their second-round series. Shortly after that, the puck will drop for Game 6 of Bruins-Flyers, with Boston leading 3-2. Here are today's free picks:

Montreal Canadiens at Pittsburgh Penguins – 7:00 p.m. ET

These teams have traded victories on NHL odds throughout the series. Montreal came out on top in Game 6, winning 4-3 thanks to a pair of goals from Michael Cammalleri. Cammalleri has been a star during the NHL Playoffs and leads the league with 11 goals thus far. That's not to be outdone by the play of Jaroslav Halak. Montreal's young goalie made another 34 saves on Monday, and he has a sterling .932 save percentage in the postseason.

Pittsburgh was a big favorite this year on NHL futures, but it needs a better effort from its stars. Sidney Crosby scored the Penguins' first goal in Game 6, but he's been pretty quiet considering he's deemed the best player in the world. Crosby racked up 13 points in six games against Ottawa in the first round; he's mustered just five points versus the Habs. Evgeni Malkin has also been subpar—he was held scoreless in Game 6 and has just four points in the series.

Montreal has surprised just about everyone at the sportsbook, but the Penguins have plenty of big-game experience on their side. Pittsburgh has played in several crucial Game 7s in the past two years, including the Stanley Cup Final. Tonight, the big guns will step up.

Pick: Pittsburgh

Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers – 8:00 p.m. ET

Despite numerous injuries and setbacks during the playoffs, Philadelphia has displayed a mental toughness sports betting fans never saw during the regular season. The Flyers fell into an 0-3 hole but have won back-to-back games, including a 4-0 victory in Game 5. Philly will have to head into battle without its starting goaltender, however. Brian Boucher was injured in the previous game and will miss the next several weeks. He'll be replaced by Michael Leighton, who made 14 saves in relief on Monday and went 17-9-2 with a 2.83 GAA and .905 SV% in the regular season.

The Bruins don't have a ton of offense, so they must rely on great defense and goaltending to take care of business on hockey odds. Both areas have regressed in round two. Tuukka Rask posted a .927 SV% in the first-round victory over Buffalo, but it's been a much more humble .901 against the Flyers.

Philadelphia's run has been admirable, but the buck stops here. Leighton's relief appearance on Monday was the first time he suited up since March 16. He rode adrenaline in Game 5, but he'll have too much time to think about tonight's elimination scenario and won't bring the effort Philly needs between the pipes.

Pick: Boston
