USC-Arizona State is the College Football Betting Game of the Year

USC travels to Arizona State in a game that could have BCS ramifications as ASU is one of six teams with a realistic shot at the national championship.

The teams are very close offensively with the Trojans have an upper hand by 24.1 yards per game. However, USC gets 16.8 more rushing yards. The Trojans have a notable edge in rushing yards per attempt by 1.0, but ASU gets 2.0 more passing yards per attempt and 2.8 more passing yards per reception.

On defense, it’s the Trojans coming out on top by 56.4 yards per game and 1.0 yards per play. The only defensive category in which the Sun Devils have superiority is in passing percentage, in which they allow 2.9 percent less. ASU, though does have a turnover ratio of 10 better than USC.

Southern California is 8-2 straight up, but just 5-5 to the number. Arizona State is 9-1 straight up and 6-4 where it counts. The Trojans have won the net yardage battle in 9-of-10 games, but ASU is 8-2 as far as that category, considered the most telling by the world’s top football handicapper, Mike Godsey of GodsTips, the anchor of OffshoreInsiders.com.

Our official outlaw line is a pick. The official outlaw line is what the odds would be if there was no consideration given to public perception and balancing the action.  It is the more accurate line from the standpoint of the bettor.

In the NBA, a three-point difference with a line that low is very big. The road team is 7-4 straight up in the Raptors games. Memphis is off a win, but has yet to win back to back games.

NBA

ATLANTA +6.5 San Antonio

Both teams are rested. Remember one of our Golden Rules, rest benefits teams that need it most. Atlanta can now make adjustments after losing 4-of-5 straight up and against the spread. The Spurs were in a groove.  They may be tempted to rest some legs though as it's the first of three games in four nights.

Atlanta is 3-2 straight up their last five at home to the Spurs. Atlanta has preached "getting back to fundamentals" and will use their athleticism against the Spurs.

The home team is 7-2 straight up in the Hawks games and 8-2 in the Sperm Whales contests.

This season's Hawks team is the youngest in the league, with an average age of 23.65. That means they are predictably unpredictable: better at home and a team to bet with when they are struggling and bet against when they are playing well because young teams turn their play on a dime.  To gamblers, that's literally on a "dime".

Middle Tennessee State and Troy start out one of the biggest betting weeks of the year in college football and the NFL. The staff of OffshoreInsiders.com takes a look at how they match up in key statistical categories.

Troy State has the edge in most offensive categories getting 97.9 more total yards per game on offense including an advantage in passing yardage by 70.7. They average .3 more yards per play.

Though Troy State gets 1.1 more rushing yards per attempt, it's actually MTSU with a 1.5 edge in passing yards per attempt and 3.2 passing yards per reception.

On defense, they are fairly evenly matched. Troy allows 22.7 less total yards, but Middle Tennessee allows 14.6 fewer rushing yards per game. MTSU has a huge plus-7 turnover margin advantage.

Illinois is a huge work in progress and is desperate for outside shooters. Coach Bruce Webber admits he is going to shuffle the line-up and try to find combinations. ASU with their Princeton style offense will frustrate a team that has not prepared for it and Illinois has not in this three-games-in-three days event where he's playing his lineups by ear.

Disciplined ASU will beat the young Illinois team with several weaknesses.

The Colts are expected to be without starting left tackle Tony Ogoh and wide receiver Marvin Harrison. Aaron Moorehead will get the start at wideout. Already without their best defensive player Dwight Freeney for the year, they could be without seven starters today.  However safety Bob Sanders is expected to play despite being listed as questionable. The Chiefs are still without running back Larry Johnson.

Panthers-Packers

The Panthers starting wide receiver Steven Smith is a game time decision.

Giants-Lions

The Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress and linebacker Antonio Pierce will both start.

Saints-Texans

Texans running back Ahman Green is out. But remember their top wide receiver Andre Johnson is back.

Bears-Seahawks

Seattle is going to be without running back Shaun Alexander. Maurice Morris starts in his place. Seahawks wideout Deion Branch will likely play, but be less than 100 percent.

Rams-49ers

The 49ers running back Frank Gore is feeling as good as he has in weeks. Trent Dilfer gets the nod at QB in place of slumping Alex Smith. He won't have wide receiver Ashlie Lelie who is out.

Patriots-Bills

Running back Marshawn Lynch is very doubtful.

SEATTLE -5.5 Chicago

Here is what Chicago has done after wins this year: get blown out at home by 24 to Dallas, lost at home to Minnesota, and got crushed at home to Detroit. Now Rex Grossman is back at quarterback. So do you think he will follow up his great relief effort?

We don't love Brian Griese, but he's certainly the lesser of two evils. Griese has completed 61.8 percent of his passes this season, compared with 52.4 percent for Grossman. Griese's quarterback rating is 77.1, compared with Grossman's 53.9

Seattle has won their last two home games by a 57-6 margin. Seattle has long had one of the biggest home field advantages and they are 4-1 straight up this year by a 11.4 points per game margin.

Yes Seattle will have to win without Shaun Alexander, but with home field against Rex Grossman, they blow them out. 

Seattle has all the motivation of double revenge as Chicago won both last year.

Panthers-Packers

In one of the strangest stats in the NFL, the road team is 9-1 straight up and against the spread in the Panthers games. Green Bay has won 12-of-13 going back to the end of last season.

Saints-Texans

The Saints had their four-game winning streak snapped last week losing at home to the St. Louis Rams. They are 1-5 their last six to the AFC.

Houston is off a bye, but is 1-4 straight up following the week off. Houston is 1-5 at home to the AFC. This is a Houston defense that allowed just 80 yards per game on the ground in their first four games, but 159.6 in their last five.

Chiefs-Colts

Kansas City has won two straight road games and in fact the road team is 5-1 straight up in their last six. The Colts have gone from thinking 16-0 to trying to stop a two-game losing streak. However, the Colts are probably much better than their record as their six wins are by an average of 17.4 and their two losses by 3.0.

Chargers-Jaguars

After a 1-3 start, the Chargers have squeezed out four wins in their last five. Jacksonville is expected to get back quarterback David Garrard. The 7-2 Steelers are on a three-game winning streak. Pittsburgh is 17-2 all-time to the Jets. This includes postseason play. They've held the Jets to an average of 5.6 points in the last seven meetings.

Redskins-Cowboys

Washington has alternated wins and losses in their last seven games, meaning they are "due" for a win. For those who bet quarter lines, note that Dallas far and away leads the NFL with 104 points in the third quarter, 34 more than the No. 2 team Indianapolis.

Rams-49ers

St. Louis is off their first win of the year. After averaging 11.3 points per game in their fist seven games, they've averaged 28.5 the last two.

After a 2-0 start, the Niners have lost seven in a row. The 49ers are 15-42 straight up going back to 2004.

Bears-Seahawks

Chicago has won three straight road games. The road team is 5-0 in their last five games. Chicago won both games last year (including postseason). Running back Shaun Alexander is out for Seattle.

Patriots-Bills

The undefeated Patriots are off a bye week. They have won 12 straight regular season games since last year. Guess who has the second longest winning streak in the conference at four? It's the Bills.

Don't look for Buffalo to win this one though. New England is on an 8-0 tear in the series by a combined 232-76.

Hawaii-Nevada Betting Preview

According to "Vegas Insider" Rick Monek of MasterLockLine.com, Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan is a true game time decision Brennan told reports he is not experiencing any side effects from a concussion he suffered last Saturday. However, he practiced very minimally this week, skipping Monday and Tuesday.

Not only do the Rainbows have the challenge of heading to the mainland, but they will play in temperatures in the low 50s if not upper 40s.

In comparing overall statistics, Hawaii has a big advantage on both sides of the ball. Hawaii gets 1.1 more yards per play and gives up 1.4 less on the defensive side of the ball.

Contrary to popular belief, Nevada is actually more of a big play team, averaging 2.4 more passing yards per reception than the Rainbows are.

In total yards, Hawaii gives up 72.7 less per game and gets 30.3 more. The big difference is that this is only Hawaii's fourth road game. They are though outscoring teams on the highway by a 46-28.2 points per game margin.

As far as betting trends, all records are against the spread. Hawaii has covered seven straight after getting more than 450 total yards last game. They are on a 20-8 tear as a favorite.

Hawaii-Nevada

Be careful of the trap game Jayhawks. Kansas faces Missouri next week in their biggest test of the year. The Cyclones average less than half as many points offensively as Kansas scoring just 19.2 to the rock chalk Jayhawks 45.9.

BYU-Wyoming

Sports gamblers who like to bet streaks will love to know that Wyoming has lost 4-of-5 after a 4-1 start.

San Diego State-Air Force
