Sunday Godspicks

Sunday, April 30, 2006

Our latest run sees 9-4 with Wise Guy plays including three MLB dogs, two Dandy Dogs.  Our great overall postseason resumes making a run at our March Madness level as we have six NBA sides and totals including two Wise Guy plays.

Wise Guy plays from Godspicks are widely accepted by high rollers, bookmakers, linesmakers, and fellow handicappers as the biggest play in the handicapping abyss. This is just fact. The ENTIRE card  is just $17 at www.godspicks.com.  Alternate forms of payment are available. Godspicks is proud to be part of the Handicapper’s Sampler rundown of which sports services are hot and who has the big play at JoeDuffy.net News and notes resume Monday.

MLB

METS (TRACHSEL -104) Atlanta (Davies)

The Mets have won four straight. Atlanta has dropped five in a row. The Mets are 3-1 with Trachsel, winning both road starts. Overall his ERA is 3.13 and his WHIP 1.174.  The numbers are better on the road.

Baseball virtual pick ‘em games (line 125 or less either way) when one team averages .6 or fewer errors against a team that gets at least one stolen base per game, the good fielding team is 214-144.

Saturday Godspicks

Saturday, April 29, 2006

It’s a 9-0 NBA playoff run. Three NBA Wise Guys and an NBA Major are up now at The Center of the Handicapping Universe Godspicks.com. Late steam is inclusive in the price which is sent upon completion later in the morning.

You and I bet the NBA playoffs and all of a sudden March Madness is breaking out insofar as Godspicks lapping all the other sports services by a country mile. Wise Guy on Sacramento makes it 8-1 with Wise Guy plays, three of them MLB dogs. Wise Guy plays from Godspicks are widely accepted by high rollers, bookmakers, linesmakers, and fellow handicappers as the biggest play in the handicapping abyss. This is just fact.

Start out with a 4-0 NBA performance including three Wise Guy plays. The ENTIRE card  is just $17 at www.godspicks.com.  Alternate forms of payment are available. Godspicks is proud to be part of the Handicapper’s Sampler rundown of which sports services are hot and who has the big play at JoeDuffy.net

MLB

BALTIMORE (CHEN +110) Seattle (Hernandez)

Seattle is on a 6-14 skid. We’ve done well going against Felix Hernandez, who has not been a wonderful, wonderful cat. Seattle is 1-3 in his starts.

Baltimore is a nice 11-7 their last 18. Baltimore is 15-5 in the series +11 units including 9-1 at home. That includes ripping Hernandez to shreds in his only start to the O’s. He was slapped for 6 ER in 7 IP.

Baltimore is hitting .50 points higher at home than the Ms on the road. Seattle is hitting .216 their last seven games.

Going against teams that hit .9 or fewer home runs per game against an opponent with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 7.00 or higher over his last three starts is 197-98 +78.6.

NBA

Pistons-Bucks

Associated Press

Young Milwaukee needed postseason experience, with five Bucks playing significant postseason minutes for the first time. Now, they’ve got to learn how to win, and quickly. The Pistons, with 50 playoff games since 2004, have answered every change Milwaukee has made so far. The Bucks said that their best chance in the series was to push the tempo. The Pistons have outscored them 49-27 in transition. The Pistons are shooting 46 percent to Milwaukee’s 39 percent clip, and are averaging 8 ½ more assists a game.

Mavericks-Grizzlies

KRT

The Mavs took a commanding 2-0 lead with Wednesday’s 94-79 victory in Game 2. No team in NBA history has rallied from a 3-0 deficit. On top of that, the Grizzlies have yet to win a playoff game in 10 tries.

Clippers-Nuggets

Associated Press

The Nuggets were outshot by the Los Angeles Clippers for the third straight game, missed everything they threw up from 3-point range and watched star Carmelo Anthony again have trouble deciphering double teams. Yet, their 94-87 win over the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a six-game skid and allows them the opportunity to tie their best-of-seven series Saturday night at the Pepsi Center. The Nuggets have yet to shoot better than 40 percent in this series.

Orange County Register

Denver was 0 of 11 on three-point tries and missed 14 free throws. But the Nuggets were facing a desperate situation. No team in NBA history ever has come back to win a playoff series, after losing the first three games. Clippers center Chris Kaman was not much of a factor. Playing on a very sore right ankle that he injured in Game2, Kaman did not score his first field goal until just over two minutes left in the game. He finished with two points and four rebounds in 29 minutes. Another hobbled Clipper was guard Cuttino Mobley, who was bothered by a groin-muscle strain. Mobley was 0 of 4 in the first half, made 3 of 4 shots in the third quarter, including a pair of three-pointers.

If you are still on the outside looking in, don’t come bitching to me about not making a fortune betting. Chicago and Wise Guy Denver make it 7-0 in the NBA.  While it’s not likely that even we can duplicate the yearly March Madness jackpot at The Center of the Handicapping Universe Godspicks.com, nobody wins like us in the NBA playoffs.

Again we give your man a splitting headache.  We had two Dandy Dogs in MLB and hit Colorado +160.  Because of our prowess with dogs, we can hit 50 percent and make you a ton.  Skillfully, our winning percentage will never drop that low long-term.

If you have yet to step foot into gambling’s most exclusive country club, begin the rest of your gambling life today with a limited time bargain on top of bargain. Our two-month package is reduced and current clients will get the days added. ATLANTA (SMOLTZ +102) NY Mets (Martinez)

Atlanta is 15-3 at home in the series and sends their ace to the hill. The Mets are off to a good start, but according to the Massey Ratings, which is the best for ranking strength of schedule, the Mets have had the easiest schedule in the Major Leagues. Yet they’ve slowed down a bit going 4-5 their last nine. Smoltz’ only home outing was a complete game shutout.

The Mets have lost 3-of-4 to the Braves ace.

God's Tid-Bets, Vol. 21

Baseball’s Sharp versus Square Gap; Another Information Age Weapon and More

God’s Tid-bets, Vol. 21

Joe Duffy (JoeDuffy.net)

This is the latest in a series of a Godgepodge of sports betting strategy and other sports handicapping and gaming issues.

Parlays are Par to Lay Off

We very often get questions about parlays and most people even preface it by admitting they “need a bailout”.  First of all, as we’ve stated many times, there is no “bailout” game, parlay or bet of any sort.

But to answer the oft asked question, we never bet parlays. States Brian Gould of Freescoreboard.com, “Any proposition that we can go 4-1 and yet still lose money is something we want no part of.”

This is even truer in baseball, where by design we can pick 40 percent over a long period and still win thanks to the rudimentary yet still widely abandoned underdog math. Parlays are sports gambling’s get rich scheme.

We believe there are true “casual gamblers” and parlays do serve an entertainment purpose for weekend warriors who have self control and little delusions.

Here is an analogy.  My parents live about 45 minutes from Atlantic City.  They make the trip often, but do so to have a good time first and foremost.  Hoping to win money is the carrot that increases their entertainment, but they are well aware over the long term they will lose money playing their beloved one arm bandits.

It’s the same way with the parlay card player. If the weekend warrior wants to play $10 on a parlay card or two per weekend to make his coach potato experience more enjoyable, more power to him. That is, as long as he knows parlays decrease his chances of winning in return for the low risk/high return rush.

We see no other use for parlays.

No Middle Class among Baseball Handicappers

Most Vegas, offshore, or local books will tell you the biggest gap between the sharp and square player occurs in baseball. According to Cy McCormick of the online betting syndicate AllianceHandicapping.com, the balance of power divide is even more pronounced among sports services.  McCormick has accurate long-term records of virtually ever sports service and says roughly 8-13 percent of touts will turn a profit over a full season in other sports, but less than five percent in baseball.

He believes it comes down to marketing. “Services can pad their records, yet lose money by picking a lot of big favorites. Therefore they can win for losing by worrying about won-loss record ahead of ROI”.

Stevie Vincent of KnockoutPicks.com believes there is another reason—handicappers don’t put as much effort into picking baseball games because sales are always going to be higher in other sports.  “Some handicappers literally take off during baseball season, while others only do figuratively.”

Bill Kayma, Managing Editor of Scorephone.com agrees with Vincent. “Many gamblers will pay for well marketed coin flips.  That’s why we required all handicappers to provide at least a month of samples of their daily write-ups before allowing them on our site. Handicappers should always have quality analysis with their picks. If they don’t, chances are they are trying to pawn a mere hunch.”

The World Keeps Getting Smaller

We’ve touted modern technology time and time again and how this funky thing called the Internet gives the player the edge.  That is as long as one has the time, effort and knowledge on how to use it.

As we’ve said, Internet radio is very valuable in getting the local skinny that was once available to a select few.  Finally the nation’s first and still best sports station, WFAN in New York, can be heard online either via their home page or Radiomat.com.

A true sports station, as opposed to the “guy radio” pseudo sports formats polluting the airwaves, WFAN actually has reporters at the New York area teams’ practices.  No station in the country is better at breaking news that is of interest to the gambler—the up-to-the-minute status on a star player considered a “game time decision”.

The insight is quite good and useful to the sports gambler too.

The number of sources for real time first-hand information continues to increase, but WFAN now being available on our office computer is one of the better ones in a long time.

Your four-day pass starts out with a Wise Guy day winner (and an additional surprise!).  We then have two NBA including a Wise Guy. If it were not for NHL OT or MLB extra innings, we would never lose.  We win yet again in MLB and the NBA Wednesday. It’s now a quiet 5-0 NBA run while our baseball dog domination goes back to the 80s and our Cadillac Club days.

Far from classic, yet still a great illustration how we became the premier MLB handicapper because of our mastery of risk/return, we split eight baseball games but win thanks to dogs barking led by Dandy Dog on Arizona.

NBA

Nets-Pacers

Newark Star Ledger

The Pacers’ injury toll mounted when Stephen Jackson was added to the list of banged-up players, a list that already included Peja Stojakovic and Jamaal Tinsley. Jackson jammed his right pinkie while fouling out of Game 2 on Tuesday, and had X-rays taken yesterday. The X-rays were negative and Jackson will almost certainly play tonight, but he could not shoot yesterday in practice and there is some worry about his level of effectiveness. “He was really sore and couldn’t shoot the ball,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’ll get treatment and we’ll see where he is. I know he’s going to play, because he plays. But we’re concerned about it because it is his shooting hand.” Carlisle also said Tinsley, who returned form a sore right Achilles’ tendon to play in Game 2, is very sore and is questionable for tonight. Meanwhile Stojakovic, whose swollen right knee kept him in street clothes for Game 2, did not practice and remains uncertain for tonight, though he claimed to “believe,” he’ll play.

Heat-Bulls

Chicago.com

Not too long ago, the Chicago Bulls owned the NBA’s stingiest defense. And then, the playoffs began. A Bulls team that led the league in field-goal percentage defense during the regular season has allowed the Miami Heat to shoot 50.3 percent, and, no shocker, trails 2-0 as this first-round playoff series shifts to Chicago for Games 3 and 4 Thursday and Sunday. Center Alonzo Mourning is questionable with a torn calf muscle—an injury he sustained in an 82-73 loss at Detroit on March 22. Skiles expects Bulls F Malik Allen, bothered by back spasms, to be available for Game 3.

Clippers-Nuggets

Sports Illustrated/CNN

The Denver Nuggets know they can win without Kenyon Martin. They’ve gone 29-9 in games he’s missed due to injury since signing a seven-year, $93 million contract two years ago, including 19-6 this season, when his surgically repaired left knee limited him to a career-low 56 games and drove to Nuggets to hold him out of the regular season finale, as well.

NBA

INDIANA -1 New Jersey

The Pacers do have some injuries, so we backed off making this a premium play, but things are looking better for one of their weapons. “It feels better because I didn’t do anything (Wednesday),” Peja Stojakovic said of his injured knee. “I’m hoping I’ll be able to play. We’ll see.”

Jermaine O’Neal is a much better player than he has shown so far, so it would be a shock if he does not bounce back at home.

Going against road teams after giving up 75 points or less when two teams that score 92-98 ppg is 41-10. Injuries and all, we have to take a team that’s 27-14 SU laying a single point to a squad that is under.500 on the road.

DETROIT (MAROTH +115) Anaheim (Lackey)

Detroit is 3-0 with Maroth whose ERA is a ridiculous 0.79. Detroit is 11-3 on the road. The Angels are 1-5 to Maroth. There are also several systems favoring Detroit with minimal overlapping on ones with ROIs above 60 and 70.

Detroit is hitting much better to right-handed starters at .287. LAA is hitting a pathetic .233 at home with an OBP of .271. Their last seven games overall, their batting average is just .251.

Wow, it’s one of our biggest cards relative to the number of games EVER—14 winners Tuesday!  We have two NBA and NHL playoff winners. We also have five MLB Wise Guy plays and five Majors. Let’s just say it’s a good night for Dandy Dogs. Dandy dogs are dogs of 140 or more in MLB.

One of the many things we love about systems is that there is no question there are discernable patterns to when good and/or hot teams (and/or pitchers) will falter.  Some super systems with ROIs above 80 units say that will happen tonight. An underdog tonight has in eight lifetime starts an outstanding ERA and WHIP to tonight’s foe.  Go at least 10-4 tonight.

Reds-Nationals

MLB.com

Left-hander Billy Traber will get the start for Washington, with left-hander Dave Williams getting the nod for Cincinnati. Traber will face the Reds for the second time in his career. The last time he faced them was in 2003, and he pitched seven shutout innings and picked up his first win as a starter. Last Thursday, Traber, replacing the injured Ryan Drese, made his Nationals debut and pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs -- three earned. He picked up his first win since Aug. 7, 2003, when he was with the Indians. Since then he has battled elbow problems. He had elbow reconstruction surgery that same year and didn't pitch in another game until he was in Cleveland's Minor League system. Entering Monday's action, the Nationals have scored 40 runs in the eight games in which Alfonso Soriano was in the top of the lineup.

Rockies-Phillies

Philly Burbs

Floyd has had one decent start and two bad ones.  The Rockies recalled Asencio from Triple-A to replace Zach Day, who was designated for assignment. Asencio, 25, was a Phillies' farmhand from 1998-2001, then acquired by Kansas City in the 2001 Rule 5 Draft. He pitched in 39 games, 29 starts, with the Royals from 2002-03, going 6-8 with a 5.14 ERA.

Brewers-Braves

MLB.com

Milwaukee skipper Ned Yost elected to shake up his starting lineup, putting second baseman Rickie Weeks in the leadoff spot and bumping center fielder Brady Clark, the first batter in 17 of the team's 19 games this year, down to No. 8. With ailments plaguing more familiar names, such as Chipper Jones (expected to return from the disabled list on Tuesday) and Edgar Renteria (questionable for the series), the left side of Atlanta's infield included rookie Martin Prado at third base and Wilson Betemit at shortstop. Including left fielder Matt Diaz, right fielder Jeff Francoeur and starting pitcher Kyle Davies, more than half of the starters boasted fewer than two years service time. Tomo Ohka (1-1, 4.09 ERA) will hope to emulate his performance from two starts ago, when he allowed one run over seven innings in New York, rather than his Thursday showing against Cincinnati when he gave up six runs in four innings.

Marlins-Cubs

Sun Sentinel

Willis is undefeated in 14 April starts, going 9-0 with a 2.28 ERA in 86 innings. This is his fifth start at Wrigley Field, where he is 2-0 with a 1.01 ERA, no homers, seven walks and 23 strikeouts in 262/3 innings all-time. Three of Willis' four starts have come on the road. He has held opponents to a .203 average in those games. Marshall is making his fourth career start after spending last season at Double-A West Tennessee. In 141/3 innings he has given up 11 hits (three homers), five walks and eight strikeouts. No current Cubs batter has hit a homer off Willis. INF Todd Walker, C Michael Barrett and INF Jerry Hairston Jr. are a combined 10 for 27 (.370) against him. OF Matt Murton ranks among the league's top 10 hitters against left-handed pitching (.462).

MLB

MILWAUKEE (OHKA +110) Atlanta (Hudson)

Milwaukee is a solid 7-4 at home and one good outing for the petite Hudson does not a great year make. His ERA is still 6.08, two runs higher than the home underdog. Going against teams with a  bullpen ERA of 4.50 or worse when the team you are going with has a starting pitcher with a WHIP of 1.550-1.650 is 330-229 +91 units.

Atlanta is hitting a horrific .191 their last seven games with an embarrassing .250 OBP.  Remember they have their share of injuries, with the bat of Chipper Jones being the most notable.

Milwaukee is ripping at a .306 pace their last seven games with a .354 OBP.
