OffshoreInsiders.com writer Joseph Falchetti looks at the New England Patriots (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers – Sunday at 4:15 pm.
In a battle for AFC conference supremacy, the Patriots (5-1, 4-2 ATS) travel to Pittsburgh (5-2, 3-4 ATS) to face the Steelers at Heinz field. The Patriots offense is the top ranked in the league and is averaging just over 30 points a game. On the opposite side of the ball, the Pats also sport the league's worse defense. The Patriots looked flustered in their last game against Dallas, the best defense they have faced so far. The Cowboys simply just could not put points up on the board on offense to win the game. I don't think the Steelers will make the same mistakes.
- Look for Big Ben to clock the Patriots
The Steelers are ranked 2nd in pass defense and 3rd overall in total defense making this toughest matchup the Pats have faced all year. Ike Taylor has done a great job on limiting top opposing receivers for Pittsburgh, I think he continues on his trend and will be able to limit the red hot Wes Welker. Both teams should attack through the air, which in my opinion gives the Steelers a solid advantage.
The Pats are giving up a league worst 320 yards passing a game. Ben Roethlisberger has been the hottest QB in the league over the past few weeks throwing 9 touchdowns in his past 3 games. Although, all pro receiver Hines Ward may not be able to go this week, it could be a blessing in disguise for the Steelers, whose dynamic young receivers of Antonio Brown and Emmanuelle Sanders have been frustrating defensive backs for weeks. Along with deep threat wide out Mike Wallace, Big Ben's receiving core should gash New England's porous secondary.
The Steelers at +2.5 in Heinz Field is too good to pass up, as a home underdog recently Pittsburgh is 6-1 against the spread in their past 7 games. In addition to that, I think they win the key matchups in this game and they have started to play their best football of the year, on both sides of the ball.
The pick: Steelers +2.5
