Meeting up on the diamond . . .

Dan Haren will try to boost his season record to the .500 mark on Monday night when his Diamondbacks start a series on the road against the Marlins. Righthander Haren is just 3-4 on the season despite a solid 2.09 ERA; he took the loss in his last outing, allowing three earned runs in seven innings against the Reds. The Marlins will counter with Ricky Nolasco on Monday night; the righthander is 2-4 and sports an ugly 7.78 ERA through eight outings this season.

Elsewhere around the National League on Monday it'll be
Pittsburgh at Washington, Milwaukee at St. Louis, the Mets at the Dodgers, and Colorado at Atlanta. Braves starter Derek Lowe has won four straight starts to sit at 5-1 with a 3.80 ERA on the season; the righthander was originally slated to pitch on Sunday afternoon against the Diamondbacks, but that game was cancelled due to rain.

Toronto.  As well, it'll be Minnesota at the Yankees, Oakland at Tampa Bay, and the Angels at Seattle. M's starter Jarrod Washburn is at 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA, but hasn't won since April 21. John Lackey will get the ball for the Angels on Monday.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins will open the Eastern Conference final at home on Monday night when they play host to Cam Ward's Hurricanes. Crosby and company took care of the Capitals in Game 7 of their second-round series last Wednesday, cruising to a 6-2 victory. The Canes also needed to go the distance in the second round against the Bruins, winning the clincher 3-2 on Thursday night. The oddsmakers have the Penguins listed as -190 home favorites for Monday (with a total of 5.5), while Pittsburgh is also a -200 favorite in the series.
