Danny Sheridan USA Today Spread: Cleveland Tonight's NBA Betting Pick
But there is plenty of viable sports investing opportunities before the Super Bowl XLV.
Matt Rivers, Senior Sports Handicapper for OffshoreInsiders.com has a Monday sports pick on the Cleveland Cavaliers (+17.5) at Miami.
Reasoning: I played Cleveland yesterday and watched that number be a bit too high in a cover and will go back to that well today. Now I clearly don't think that the Cavs are anything other than horrific/pathetic and abysmal all rolled into one but they still do have something and up against an old "friend" in LeBron may show that something. Granted it's not going to be close to grabbing the outright and with Mo Williams banged up we are seeing a ton of garbage no-names on the court but with both teams on a back-to-back I just don't see the Heat being all that fired up today to lay a thumping.
Last month the Cavs visited Miami's the huge dog and had a chance to literally win the game. In fact Cleveland led for the majority of it and just fell short at the end. This thing probably won't be as hotly contested with LeBron, D Wade and Chris Bosh all back in the lineup and relatively healthy but at this gargantuan number with at least Antawn Jamison, J.J. Hickson and Boobie Giibson it's just too much. Plus how about former Michigan Wilverine Manny Harris last night? Maybe this kid is going to make it in the league, huh?
The Heat won an emotional game yesterday on the road at Oklahoma City against a fired up Thunder squad and crowd. Beating Durant and Westbrook quite possibly may have zapped some energy creating a bit of a letdown situation tonight.
Miami is great and can blow out anybody at anytime and certainly is light years superior than this Cleveland team which has won one game in the past few months. But with that said I am backing professionals, no matter how inept they have been of late and will take my chances at this unbelievable and almost unthinkable number.
Top expert pick on this game: Cleveland +17.5
For more information: Things have been very solid of late and that included yesterday as the 400,000* Red Storm won outright by a billion and the 300,000* on the Cavaliers cashed that ticket as well. Today's slate doesn't exactly scream for a monster bomb dropping but have no fear as another winning 300,000* is here from College Station between the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies. Without a shadow of a doubt the 'Horns have been the far superior team of late but it's a rivalry game and sometimes truly anything can happen in these spots. What gives? I'll let you know! College Basketball Picks: Maryland Routs Georgia Tech
I'm starting to do a 180 real quickly with these Terrapins. No I still do not believe that Gary Williams has one of his more talented and better teams but with the way Jordan Williams has been dominating the paint and with the improvement that Maryland has been showing I'm starting to fear that turtle ever so slightly.
Georgia Tech has played far better of late as well and especially so at home where they have actually been a good team in recent weeks. But Paul Hewitt is still a coach who has not been able to get his points across and the Yellow Jackets are one of the youngest teams in the country, literally. I think out of the 350 or so schools Tech is collectively more experienced than only 12 or 13 others. Could the improvements be happening as the players start to mature? Eh, maybe a little, but frankly playing games at home should provide victories over Wake, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, young or not.
There is some talent on this Jacket team with Iman Shumpert, Brian Oliver, Daniel Miller and Glen Rice among others and I even backed them in the easy win and cover over the Tar Heels. But the 13-7 Terps have a monster in the middle in Williams who is a double-double machine and overall are the better team on the court tonight.
This game should be a battle throughout and far from a blowout but in the end Tech's good fortune of late should come to an end as Hewitt has been a dud and should continue to be a dud coaching his still very young Jackets.
Top expert pick on this game: Maryland
For more information: Yesterday was a 2-2 blah day but all in all things have been just fine and will be more than fine today. By the way Northwestern almost getting that outright was awesome!
A pair of winners today including a major 400,000* release from MSG involving Duke and St. John's. Can the somewhat feast or famine Red Storm hang in this thing or are they about to get outclassed by the one-loss and top five Dookies? Green Bay is 13-6 straight up, 12-7 to the number going under 12-7. As far as recent streaks, Pittsburgh has covered 6-of-7, going over three straight. The Pack are a stunning 10-3 their last 13 against the sportsbooks number.
Pittsburgh has an average running game, but spectacular passing squad. They get 4.0 yards per rush to squads usually permitting 4.1, but get 7.4 yards per pass to 6.4 and 5.7 yards per play to 5.4. They get 23.9 points per game to teams that normally allow 21.
Defensively, they are extremely stout, especially against the run. Pittsburgh allows just 15.3 points per game to squads that normally accumulate 21.5 on 3.0 yards per rush to teams normally getting 4.1, 5.7 yards per pass to 6.4 and 4.7 yards per play to 5.3.
Though professional gamblers exploit ratings vs. rankings, Pittsburgh dominates both as they allow just 62 yards per game rushing against units that normally get 115.
Green Bay has an explosive offense, more so passing. They average 25.2 points per game versus squads that allocate an average of 21.7. Breaking down the key numbers, they get 3.8 yards per carry to 4.1, but a very noteworthy 7.7 yards per pass to 6.5 and 5.9 yards per play to 5.5.

The key indicators tell us they allow 4.5 yards per rush to teams that usually get 4.2, but 5.9 passing yards per attempt to 6.5 and just 5.3 yards per play to foes that average 5.5.

BYU vs. New Mexico Free Sports Betting Pick
Reasoning Laying points at The Pit is a rare scenario as the Lobos at home are perennially a great team that has that Cameron Indoor type advantage when on their floor. But right now Jimmer Fredette and the Cougars are a legit Top 10 team at worst and I do not at all expect a letdown from this team after the quality victory over San Diego State.
BYU has been phenomenal all season long. They are 20-1 overall and have beaten some decent enough schools as the Cougs backcourt continues to wreak a ton of havoc on all comers. I'm not saying that the Lobos won't compete and stand toe-to-toe for awhile but in the end it's just not going to happen as Dave Rose' boys are just too freakin' good right now. Fredette very well may be thee single best player in the nation and Noah Hartsock, Jackson Emery and freshman Kyle Collingsworth are no joke as well. BYU is a well-coached and experienced team that will not just wet the bed being on the road. We saw that at UNLV and Utah as those games were really not even close.
New Mexico is 14-7 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West. So far they just do not seem to be the team they have been over the last few seasons and have now lost three of the last four games. The Lobos are still pretty good and somewhat dangerous at home but it's just asking a ton in this spot against a clear cut better team led by a player who is on a mission and just cannot be stopped.
Fredette may not score in the 40's again but the guy will be great as always in leading the Cougs to a 7-10 point victory in the end.
Top expert pick on this game: BYU -3

Free NBA Pick From Elite Sports Handicapper
Certainly the glory days for this Detroit franchise is long gone and pretty much faded away after the Chauncey Billups trade. To say that this team is even average is wrong but in this spot plus this number I'll take my chances with Rip, Tayshaun, Stuckey and a few other still at least fairly high potential guys.
Collectively Detroit is a mess and an organization that is on the complete downswing but every now and then you will see how this team can man up as they did the other night against the Magic. 17-29 is awful for sure but the Pistons have won two of their last three games and five of eight making me believe that things are looking a little more up of late at least.
Meanwhile LeBron, D Wade and the Heat are great and a team that may win it all this season. But with Chris Bosh banged up and with this being a never easy back-to-back with travel after the game at Madison Square Garden last night I can legitimately wonder if the big bad Heat will have a lot left in the tank tonight. Playing in the world's most famous arena can be an energy expanding experience that can lead to a letdown in the next game and especially when said next game is on the next night.
At any given time the Heat can blow somebody out and on any given night the Pistons are ripe to get blown out, I get that. But there are enough factors in our favor tonight to make me side with this dog and expect a closer game than the so-called experts seem to believe.
Top expert pick on this game: Detroit Pistons from Matt Rivers
