Bodog previews the Lakers vs. Grizzlies, ESPN Georgetown vs. Louisville, Tennessee vs. Florida, and Hornets vs. Cavaliers.  

Will Kobe play?

That's the be-all and end-all of Tuesday's matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies. Kobe Bryant has missed five games with a sore ankle, but the news reports at press time all suggested Bryant would suit up against the Grizz, barring a setback. The Lakers went 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS during Bryant's absence to improve to 42-14 SU and 25-29-2 ATS.

That doesn't mean L.A. doesn't need Bryant on Tuesday. The Grizz (28-27 SU, 29-25-1 ATS) have not only defied expectations, they've also made that Pau Gasol trade look a lot less one-sided, thanks to the work of Pau's younger brother Marc (15.0 points, 9.4 rebounds per game). He and Zach Randolph (20.4 points, 11.7 rebounds per game) have co-existed quite nicely on the Memphis frontline. They combined for 30 rebounds as the Grizz (+1 at home) edged the fully-loaded Lakers 95-93 back on February 1.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will get this right eventually. They've lost three games in a row SU and ATS since trading for Antawn Jamison. But there's no question the Cavs (43-14 SU, 28-28-1 ATS) are a better team with Jamison, and he'll get to show his skills Tuesday night against the New Orleans Hornets, ninth in the Western Conference at 30-26 (28-28 ATS).

The Hornets would also be a better team with Chris Paul at point guard, but Darren Collison has played extremely well in relief, contributing 20.7 points and 8.8 assists per game in February. New Orleans went 4-5 SU and 5-4 ATS in those nine contests.

Darius Songaila (ankle) is also injured for the Hornets, so they've been reduced to a seven-man rotation, while Cleveland is one of the deepest teams in the league. It's a bad spot for the Hornets even before you mention LeBron James and his 30 points per game.

With identical 8-4 marks in conference play the Volunteers and Gators will meet on the floor in Florida on Tuesday night.

Tennessee is 20-6 overall this year, and 10-12-1 vs. the college basketball odds. Florida sits at 19-8 overall and 12-10 against the spread.

The Volunteers beat South Carolina 63-55 in their Saturday outing, with Bobby Maze tossing in 14 points in that victory.

The Gators slipped past Mississippi 64-61 on Saturday, as Vernon Macklin poured in 22 points.

Tennessee and Florida have already met once this season, with the Volunteers winning 61-60 at home back on January 31.

Riding a two-game losing streak the Georgetown Hoyas will try to get back on track on Tuesday night when they take on the Louisville Cardinals.

Georgetown is 18-7 overall on the season, and 11-10 vs. the college basketball odds. Louisville is 18-9 overall and 8-14 against the spread.

The Hoyas have been beaten in back-to-back games by Rutgers and Syracuse. Against the Orange last Thursday the Hoyas' comeback fell short in a 75-71 loss.

Louisville, on the other hand, has earned the win in each of its last three games, knocking off Syracuse, Notre Dame, and DePaul.

Mike Marra had 12 points on February 14 in Louisville's 66-60 upset road win over the Orange.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, the Olympic men's hockey tournament begins its playoffs on Tuesday with the qualification round: Switzerland defeated Belarus, Czech Republic vs. Latvia , Slovakia vs. Norway, and Canada vs. Germany. The Canadian team lost 5-3 to the United States on Sunday night, which kept them from getting a bye into the quarterfinal round of the event. The United States, Sweden, Russia, and Finland all earned byes directly into the quarterfinals, which will take place Wednesday.

Forget the Tony Kornheiser, Hannah Storm Non-Issue, Matt Rivers Free Pick on Nets

No matter how many losses the Nets accumulate I still believe they are not that terrible. 5-51 is beyond hideous but Kiki Vandeweghe's squad does have talent and at some point in the near future will win some games. Tonight may not be that night but to get such a hefty number in New Jersey against a good but not great team from the west coast is just too much.

Devin Harris and Brook Lopez are studs that can play with anybody. Throw in others like Courtney Lee, Kris Humphries, Yi Jianlian and Jarvis Hayes and you have decent enough talent. There is no doubt that the culture and attitude right nåow is terrible on this team as they continue to go through the motions but the Nets have covered a lot of games over the past month and I just do not fully trust Brandon Roy and the constantly beat up Trailblazers 3,000 miles across the country.

Nate McMillan's team is good and when healthy can be very very good with Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge, Andre Miller and others. They did though just blow that 25 point lead in the overtime loss against Utah and before that had their doors blown off at home against the Celtics who were on a back-to-back with travel.

Of course Portland is the better team that should win this game but mark my word, New Jersey is going to get a few teams soon and this spot is not terrible for Portland to be one of those teams.

NBA Betting – Can Suns cool off streaking Thunder?

US sportsbook odds (US sportsbook reviews) weren't too kind to Oklahoma City prior to the season, and for good reason, as they are a very young team. But the Thunder are rolling towards a playoff spot and possibly homecourt advantage in the tough West as they host Phoenix on Tuesday, and the Suns have had Oklahoma City's number lately.

Suns vs Thunder odds – Tuesday, February 23, 8:00 PM ET

The Suns managed to get through yet another trade deadline without trading Amare Stoudamire, and now the process begins to keep the big man in the desert. Prior to Sunday's meeting against Sacramento, Stoudamire had averaged 25.4 point and 10.0 boards, and the rebounds are important because Stoudamire usually doesn't go to the glass hard. However, he was benched after getting just one in a game against Dallas on January 28^th, but he's averaged 11.25 since.

The Thunder will be back home after they play in Minnesota on Sunday night, and they'll carry an eight-game winning streak into that game. Only twice during that streak have they allowed 100 points or less, and that was against Golden State and New York, two teams that live to shoot it out. For being such a young team (Kevin Durant has the most seniority among their top four scorers), the Thunder are impressing everyone with their attention to defense. Durant has improved defensively and on the boards while maintaining the ability to score on anyone and everyone in sight. Russell Westbrook is a pesky defender against the opposition's point guard, something that is crucial to their sportsbook odds against the Suns.

The Thunder should be favored in your sportsbook at home, where they are 16-10 and have won four in a row. The Suns may have a psychological edge because they've won nine of their last 10 against the Thunder, but that may have been erased by Oklahoma City with a 117-113 win in Phoenix on December 23^rd. Durant had 38 points, including the game-winning bucket, while Westbrook added 19 points, eight boards and seven assists. Stoudamire had 35 to lead the Suns, while Steve Nash added 24 points and 12 assists, but Phoenix was outrebounded 48-38, and their bench was outscored 34-12. Their last three meetings with the Suns were in Phoenix, so they'll receive a boost from being at home, and the Suns' offense had not scored more than 100 points for two games before they played in Sacramento on Sunday, so the Thunder will be looking to take advantage of this. The Thunder have shown an ability to win offensive shootouts and low-scoring affairs, and we have more confidence in them to make the key stop when needed.

But Dallas is now playing a third game in four nights, is up against a lower tiered team and has the big bad Lakers on deck at Staples. I'm just not so sure that Rick Carlisle's boys will be running on all cylinders in this thing as it's just not a conducive spot for an easy double digit win.

Danny Granger is a pure scorer and a guy who can take a game over. Throw in a few others like Troy Murphy, an improving Roy Hibbert and Mike Dunleavy and the points appear to me to be the way to go.

There's not much rocket science here with this one. Arizona State was absolutely whacked about a month ago at home by Arizona and now travels to Tucson and will get their revenge.

Herb Sendek's team is the definite superior team even if the Wildcats have been better than most believed they would be. The Sun Devils lost a ton after least season as both Harden and Pendergraph were bona fide studs but there is still a lot of game left on this team. Derek Glasser is your typical Chris Corchiani guy who can run the point (not as good as Corch but a similar mold) and guys like Abbott, Kuksiks and Boateng are quality as well.

ASU just played back-to-back ferocious defensive games against Oregon State and Oregon limiting those teams to a combined shooting percentage in the low 30's. Sendek always preaches that end of the court and things right now appear to be going fairly smoothly as the Devils have won three of four on the road and certainly will be geeked for this game against their in-state rival.

I give Sean Miller a ton of credit because the Wildcats are clearly better now than they were earlier in the season when they needed a ridiculous late shot to beat lowly Lipscomb. This team was a mess for the first 5 or 6 weeks but now are at least somewhat formidable. It was actually the upset win at Tempe which seemed to help the confidence of this team as they stepped things up a ton but recently the 'Cats have regressed a bit losing three of four.

I do expect a tight game but in revenge and being the better team should have the visitors get their revenge.

Cole Aldrich, Xavier Henry, and Marcus Morris each picked up 12 points for Kansas in that victory. The Buffaloes (12-13 SU, 10-11 ATS) got past Oklahoma 77-67 in their last game, with Cory Higgins scoring 18 points in the contest. Colorado fell 72-66 at home to Kansas when the teams met February 3.

No. 2 Kentucky will get a tough road matchup against No. 17 Vanderbilt on Saturday, while No. 4 Purdue hosts Illinois.

Other games involving Top-10 teams on Saturday: No. 7 Kansas State at Oklahoma, and Seton Hall at No. 8 West Virginia. The Mountaineers (20-5 SU, 10-14 ATS) got past Providence 88-74 in their last game on Wednesday; Devin Ebanks scored 21 points for West Virginia on that night. College Basketball Gambling Previews From Bodog Sportsbook

What a day for bettors: Olympic Odds, Champion's League, NBA betting and college basketball. Among the big games: North Carolina vs. Boston College, Florida vs. Mississippi (Matt Rivers has a free sports pick on this game), Texas vs. Texas Tech, Louisville vs. DePaul, Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt, UCLA vs. Washington, and the Bracket Busters.

Bodog takes a look at some of the more intriguing matchups. No. 4 Purdue clearly looks like the best team in the Big Ten right now, and the Boilermakers can pull into a tie for the conference lead – for a day at least – by beating visiting Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The Boilermakers (22-3, 7-6 ATS at home) have won a conference-high eight games in a row (5-3 ATS) and have three fewer losses overall than current Big Ten leader Michigan State but are a half-game behind the Spartans, who could lose Sunday against Ohio State. MSU and Purdue then play next Sunday in what should determine the Big Ten regular-season title. How good has Purdue been? It has four wins over Top-10 teams this season, three on the road. Big Ten opponents are shooting just 37.9 percent from the floor at Mackey Arena, where the  Boilers are 12-1 overall this year. JaJuan Johnson has scored at least 19 points and pulled down at least seven rebounds in each of the Boilers' last four games.

Illinois (17-9, 5-3 ATS on road) has won five of six but enters off a 19-point home loss last Saturday to Ohio State, a team that Purdue beat by three in Columbus on Wednesday. Star Illini point guard Demetri McCamey had just nine points on 4-of-12 from the floor against the Buckeyes, and no Illinois player reached double figures in points.

When making your college basketball bet on this one, know that the Boilermakers have won five of the last eight meetings overall. That includes a six-point win at Illinois on Jan. 19. McCamey had 28 points in that one to lead the Illini, but they shot just 17-for-29 from the free-throw line. Johnson led Purdue that day with 24 points and 12 rebounds in arguably his best game of the season, but the Boilers hit only 3-for-16 from the three-point line. Coming off an overtime win over Mississippi State, the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats will be looking for their seventh straight victory on Saturday when they take on No. 17 Vanderbilt.

The Wildcats are 25-1 overall and 13-11 vs. the college basketball odds on the season, and they've been lucrative on the road – 6-2 against the spread.

DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson each had 19 points for Kentucky in their 81-75 OT victory over Mississippi State, while John Wall was good for 18 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

The Commodores have already taken on the Wildcats once this season, coming up short in an 85-72 defeat in Kentucky back on January 30.

Cousins led the Kentucky attack in that contest with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Matt Rivers College Basketball Sports Service Picks

We're obviously not looking at a Florida team that still boasts Horford, Noah, Brewer, Humphrey and players like that but Billy Donovan does have a capable team and one that can without a doubt compete today in Oxford.

The Gators are 18-8 and really never seem to be out of a game as far as basketball handicappers are concerned. Granted Florida is not an explosive squad that just pummels inferior opponents but they also rarely ever get fully outclassed and embarrassed.

Chris Warren is super talented and the Rebels at times have looked very good this season. Andy Kennedy's team started the season out in fine form but things have not been nearly as good of late. These guys have now dropped three of four after the home loss to Vanderbilt and the lone win, which was against Alabama, saw the Rebs fall behind by a whopping 20 points at the half. The second half was great but this team is just not playing very good ball and certainly not consistent winning type basketball.

Donovan's boys have eight losses on the season. Two have been by one point, one has been by three points and one has been by six points. My point is that these guys play close games and the Rebels right now are not a team that should just blow them out.

Ole Miss can win this game as they are a fairly skilled club with Warren, Polynice, White and a few others but they also can lose this game and certainly will against the NCAA Basketball Odds. It's really not that far from a 50-50 proposition in terms of just the win. Getting five or so with the visitors is almost like snatching up some free points.

Florida did have that very subpar effort a few games ago at home against Xavier but I'm not taking all that much from that one game. That was the Gators' one egg. Every team shrivels up like that at some point in a long season. The Musketeers are pretty good but, no doubt, that effort by Florida was awful.

Mississippi just needs a win right now. To ask them to win by more than a handful seems like a bit much.
