Thursday Betting Rundown

Here are you college football betting news and notes for Thursday to go with against the spread betting trends on each game and the NFL preseason.

UTEP-Buffalo

Texas El Paso has won three straight openers, but has never in their history won four straight. Buffalo returns 18 starters from their best ever team at the Division I level. However, they are 1-7 outside the conference under head coach Turner Gill. A crowd of 20,000, which is significant for the Bulls, is expected.

The Miners are expected to play 16 true and redshirt freshmen tonight. Buffalo only has six true freshman and none start.

The betting world is abuzz about GodsTips going for winning week 5-of-5 in football this season. Last night is pretty demonstrative of how GodsTips has stayed atop the industry. While we "only" went 4-3 that included two Dandy Dog winners, Cleveland +160 and Washington +150. But what do we do even better than baseball? Yes, football is the correct answer.

Vanderbilt-Miami (OH)

Vanderbilt has a completely rebuilt offensive line. The RedHawks have nine starters back on defense. Miami is favorite to make to the MAC Championship game. Brian Gould of ScoresOddsPicks.com reports that the RedHawks will certainly have the "intangibles" on their side.

"This is the first time Miami has ever hosted an SEC school," says Gould. Since 1986 the MAC has upset 10 ranked opponents. All three Miami LBs are on the Butkus Award watch list. Vanderbilt will go with senior quarterback Chris Nickson. The Commodores have lost 3-of-4 on Thursday nights, but it 7-1 the last eight outside the conference. They are 8-3 all-time to the MAC, but are 2-8 their last 10 openers overall.

NC State-South Carolina

Starting RB Mike Davis is suspended, but only he will not start. He is expected to play for USC. Last year the Gamecocks struggled against athletic quarterbacks and that describes Wolfpack starting QB, Russell Wilson, a redshirt freshmen.

The teams will each go with unproven quarterbacks. Wilson of course has yet to throw a pass, while his counterpart Tommy Beecher is a four-year junior, but has only thrown 25 passes.

NC State has won four straight in the series.

Wake Forest-Baylor

Art Briles makes his debut as Baylor head, but he has not said which of his three quarterbacks will start. The Demon Deacons are 0-4 all-time against Baylor, 1-11 to the Big 12 and 0-11 in the state of Texas.

Cy McCormick of MasterLockLine.com reports that while Wake Forest is in their best period ever for the football program, yet the quarterback who led them to 20 wins the last two seasons Riley Skinner will have his deepest group of targets ever.

Oregon State-Stanford

The Beavers are placing a high priority on getting out of the gate early after starting out 2-3 the last two years. A look ahead is possible though as OSU plays a brutal game at Penn State next week. They also have no game film to check out the tendencies of new Stanford defensive coordinator Ron Lynn.

Each team will be without a starting linemen: Stanford will not have the services of Gustav Rydstedt, while OSU will not have guard Jeremy Perry. Oregon State is 6-1 the last seven in the series.
