Sprint Cup Series All State 400 Odds Tops MLB Picks on Sunday Betting

Yes we are excited about the preseason NFL free spread picks, but plenty of money to be wagered and won today.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Sprint Cup Series races at Indy, the drivers of Formula 1 battle in Hungary, and the Dodgers play host to the Marlins.

Colliding in the Junior Circuit  . . .

Dallas Braden (7-8, 3.40 ERA) will take on Sergio Mitre (1-0, 4.76 ERA) on Sunday afternoon when the Athletics close out their series at Yankee Stadium. Lefthander Braden took a no-decision last time out, allowing two earned runs on five hits over seven innings of work vs. the Twins. Oakland has just two wins in Braden's last eight starts. Righthander Mitre got the win in his season debut against the Orioles last time out, surrendering three earned runs in 5 2-3 innings.

Also on the American League schedule to close out the week: Tampa Bay at Toronto, Texas at Kansas City, Minnesota at the Angels, Cleveland at Seattle, the White Sox at Detroit, and Baltimore at Boston. The Orioles will go with David Hernandez (2-2, 3.55 ERA) on Sunday; the righthander has given up just nine runs over his last four starts (24 1-3 innings). The BoSox counter with John Smoltz (1-3, 6.31 ERA), who was blasted by the Rangers in his most recent start.

Clashing in the Senior Circuit . . .

Jason Schmidt (1-0, 5.40 ERA) will try to win his second consecutive start on Sunday when his Dodgers host the Marlins and Chris Volstad (7-9, 4.34 ERA). Righthander Schmidt won his first start of the season last time out, holding the Reds to three runs on five hits over five innings of work. Righthander Volstad cruised to a win over the Padres in his most recent trip to the mound, surrendering just a single earned run on four hits over his seven innings pitched.

About the only mistake a few of our regular clients make is only betting our Wise Guys. This is nutty especially in baseball where our underdog Majors can win more than a Wise Guy and certainly often win more than our rare Wise Guy losers give back.

Rounding out the National League schedule for Sunday: San Diego at Washington, Atlanta at Milwaukee, the Mets at Houston, Cincinnati at the Cubs, San Francisco at Colorado, Pittsburgh at Arizona, and St. Louis at Philadelphia. The Cardinals will send Todd Wellemeyer (7-8, 5.68 ERA) to the hill; St. Louis is 0-3 in the righthander's last three outings. Joe Blanton (6-4, 4.24 ERA) will pitch for the Phillies; Philadelphia has won each of the righthander's last three starts.

Roaring around the track . . .

The Sprint Cup Series hits the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Series points leader Tony Stewart is pegged as the 5/1 Vegas favorite to take the checkered flag on Sunday, with Jimmie Johnson at 6/1, Mark Martin at 7/1, and both Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon at 8/1. Stewart, Johnson, and Gordon have won each of the last five Indy races. Denny Hamlin (10/1) and Carl Edwards (12/1) round out the top tier on the chart.

As well, the drivers of Formula 1 get back in action on Sunday with the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. Mark Webber won the last F1 event, the German Grand Prix on July 12, but he's still 22.5 points behind leader Jenson Button in the drivers championship. Button has won six of the nine F1 races so far this season, with Webber's RBR-Renault teammate Sebastian Vettel winning the other two. Heikki Kovalainen claimed the Hungarian Grand Prix last season.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

Finally, the WNBA returns from its All-Star break with a pair of games on Sunday:
Sacramento at Washington, and Phoenix at New York. The Mercury led the Western Conference standings at the break with records of 12-5 both straight-up and against-the-spread. Phoenix, however, is just 3-3 ATS on the road this season. The Liberty sit at 6-9 SU and 6-8-1 ATS through their first 15 games this year, and they're 2-5-1 ATS at home. New York lost 91-84 in Phoenix last month….Rumors are rampant that the Anaheim Angels are ramping up their bid to acquire pitcher Roy Halladay from Toronto.
