South Carolina-Florida State

Times and Democrat

And the Seminoles will be hobbled as well for Tuesday’s game with leading scorer Al Thornton battling a lower back problem and point guard Todd Galloway bothered by an ankle sprain suffered Thursday in the win over Butler. The Gamecocks (19-15) are trying to become the second team to win consecutive NIT titles since St. John’s in 1943 and 1944. But they’ll have to do it with just eight men and on the road against a Florida State team that has won its last 12 nonconference home games. South Carolina coach Dave Odom announced Monday he suspended Antoine Tisby indefinitely for violating team rules and reserves Osumane Konate and Keving Palacios will miss the game with injuries.

Minnesota-Cincinnati

St. Pioneer Press

Cincinnati (20-12) hosts Minnesota (16-14) tonight in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament. The Bearcats have shown resilience this year, bouncing back after losing five of six games to finish 8-8 in their first Big East Conference season. They finished the regular season with a home victory over West Virginia and were on their way to beating Syracuse in the first round of the Big East tournament before Gerry McNamara foiled them with a last-second three-pointer. The loss to Syracuse probably cost the Bearcats a chance at an NCAA tournament at-large bid. Having gone over the possibilities in his head several times in the past week, Kennedy can’t understand why Cincinnati’s resume wasn’t good enough. The Bearcats had a strength of schedule in the top five and a top 40 Ratings Percentage Index.

NBA

Nets-Wizards

Newark Star Ledger

Since Dec. 16, the Wizards and Nets are fourth and fifth in the league, respectively, in transition points.

Magic-Bobcats

Charlotte.com

Charlotte Bobcats point guard Brevin Knight will miss tonight’s game against the Orlando Magic, and probably Wednesday’s game in Cleveland, with a sore groin. Knight sat out Monday’s practice with the injury, which he said has troubled him for about two weeks. He anticipates playing in Miami on Friday. With Knight out, the Bobcats figure to move rookie Raymond Felton to the point and start Kareem Rush at shooting guard.

Rockets-Mavericks

Dallas Morning News

Rockets: Tracy McGrady says he’s essentially done for the season, unless the Rockets somehow have a shot at the playoffs in the final week. McGrady’s back issues should be solved before next season, but that doesn’t make the mess that this season has turned into any easier to swallow. Mavs haven’t lost consecutive games since Nov. 29 and Dec. 1. They’ve gone 42-10 since then.
