Oscar Betting Odds: Favorites For Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor

The nominations are out for the 80th annual Academy Awards and now so are the betting odds at NewBodog.

No Country for Old Men is the overwhelming chalk to get the big prize of Best Picture at 10/11. However, there is not real long shot after that as the other nominees are in a tight race. Michael Clayton and Atonement are next at 3-1.  Juno and There Will Be Blood are inching behind at 7-2 to pick up the Oscar Award.

There is no clear cut favorite for Best Director. Ethan Coen and Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men) are the favorites at 6/5, but Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) come in at 9-4, Jason Reitman (Juno) at 5-2, Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) is 11-4 with Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood) the relative dark horse at 3-1.

Talk about a prohibitive favorite. Sportsbooks have Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) as a virtual lock at 1-7. Despite heavy campaigning from Bill O'Reilly of Fox News (yes it was a joke), George Clooney (Michael Clayton) is 7-2. But oddsmakers give him a better chance at the upset with Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd) at 15-4 or Tommy Lee Jones (In the Valley of Elah) at 17-4.

The big underdog is Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) at 6-1. OffshoreInsiders.com, the top source for sports betting, plans on picking the winners before the curtain is drawn.
