Why not back the Jake Arrieta here? The kid has made a pair of starts that have been great and one came against the big bad Yankees. Now this young guy goes to a pitcher's paradise and is getting a buck and a half or so back. I'm cool with this as the game is very winnable.
Jon Garland is in the midst of one of his better seasons and probably will more than hold his own here against the poor Orioles. But I have been saying it for awhile, no matter how decent the Padres' record is and no matter how much above themselves they have played this team is still not very talented and just not very scary. Hairston? Headley? Eckstein? I mean come on.
Adrian Gonzalez is a stud that can bash away but there isn't much else. Meanwhile the Orioles, no matter how pathetic their record is, still is a club that is semi dangerous. Wieters, Jones, Tejada, Wiggington, Markakis and a few others are quality players who definitely can win this game.
I can't explain the horrific win loss record but the O's are decent enough and with what appears to be a confident and capable kind in Arrieta on the bump I'll grab this number and take my chances on the visitors.

The Yankees and Mets will both send big guns to the mound in their interleague series finale on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium, with CC Sabathia (7-3, 4.00 ERA) slated to pitch for the home side against Johan Santana (5-3, 3.13 ERA). Lefthander Sabathia was knocked around by the Mets when the two teams played on May 23, giving up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over five innings in a loss. Lefthander Santana also took the mound on May 23, holding the Yankees to just one earned run on six hits over his 7 2-3 innings (and fanning five) in that game and grabbing the win.
Roy Halladay (8-5, 2.36 ERA) will get the ball for the Phillies as they host the Twins on Sunday, while the rest of the MLB slate has Milwaukee at Colorado, Arizona at Detroit, San Francisco at Toronto, Cleveland at Pittsburgh, Kansas City at Atlanta, the White Sox at Washington, Texas at Houston, Oakland at St. Louis, the Angels at the Cubs, Baltimore at San Diego, Cincinnati at Seattle, the Dodgers at Boston, and Tampa Bay at Florida. David Price (10-2, 2.31 ERA) is set to take on Josh Johnson (7-2, 1.86 ERA) in that Rays/Marlins matchup. Lefthander Price has earned the win in seven of his last eight outings, and righthander Johnson has allowed just 10 runs over his last 10 starts.

The Sprint Cup Series offers up a road race on Sunday, with the drivers hitting the track at Infineon Raceway in the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Juan Pablo Montoya are all pegged at 11/2 odds to visit victory lane at Infineon on Sunday, with Marcos Ambrose at 13/2, and Kyle Busch at 7/1. Kasey Kahne, who won this event last season, is back at 25/1 odds to repeat as the champion. Busch won this race in 2008, Montoya in 2007, Gordon most recently in 2006 (five times total), and Stewart most recently in 2005 (two times total). Points leader Kevin Harvick is at 16/1.

Finally, there are two games on the WNBA's schedule for Sunday, with Connecticut at Phoenix and San Antonio at Seattle. The Silver Stars and Storm already met back in May, with Seattle dominating in an 84-56 road victory. Lauren Jackson led the way for the Storm with 27 points in that contest, while Swin Cash tossed in14 points for Seattle on the night. Roneeka Hodges had 12 points off the bench in the loss for San Antonio.
