No Country For Old Men In For a Big Oscar Night? Disagree? Let's Bet on It

The award for Best Picture in the 80th annual Academy Awards goes to—insert dramatic pause here—No Country for Old Men. How about Best Director? Easy, that will be Ethan Coen and Joel Coen for the same movie.

Daniel Day Lewis wins for Best Actor for his role in There Will be Blood and Ruby Dee will likely capture Best Supporting Actress. Oh and Javier Bardem is a virtual certainty for Best Supporting Actor.

How can we be so confident? The oddsmakers have told us it will be so. Forget about New York Times or Gallup polls, no source is more accurate for picking the Presidential Election than the odds for President of the United States. The same can be said about the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards or American Idol for that matter. Just ask the sportsbooks.

According to sports betting expert Joe Duffy of GodsTips, anchor of OffshoreInsiders.com, the best long shot is George Clooney for "Best Actor" at 10/1. He explains, "Clooney eloquently conveys the far left-wing beliefs of Hollywood," notes Duffy, "and with this being an election year, they will want him to get as much prime time exposure for his political speeches as possible."

Best Actress? No question, Julie Cristie for Away From Her. There are interesting proposition plays as well such as "who will the winner thank first" in some of the major categories.

One can even bet at NewBodog whether host John Stewart will make a joke about Fidel Castro. BetUs Sportsbook and Bookmaker are among the other online casinos offering Academy Awards betting opportunities.
