The silly season in baseball betting isn't quite over, as some good teams are still slumping and some bad teams are still winning. Online betting fans therefore have to tread carefully with MLB odds this month. Here's some help for Tuesday night picks.
Twins vs Red Sox odds - Scott Baker (0-1, 13.50) vs Tim Wakefield (1-1, 3.00)
MLB lines : Twins +145, Red Sox -165
Some baseball betting players probably view this is a nice sportsbook upset opportunity, but this looks more like a matchup that would provide value if it took place a month from now. Currently, though, Scott Baker is still just one start removed from a DL stint. He was lit up by the sizzling Blue Jays last week, allowing four homers in four innings after giving up just 20 in 172.1 innings in 2009MLB betting. He hasn't found his rhythm yet and it's unlikely that he'll magically find it after just one start.
Tim Wakefield is effective for the BoSox when his knuckler is dancing and it's doing just that if last week is any indication. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against
Online betting pick: Red Sox -165
Padres vs Giants odds - Jake Peavy (2-1, 3.98) vs Matt Cain (1-0, 2.08)
MLB lines: Padres -124, Giants +104
Here's a nice baseball betting treat early in the year: two young aces going head to head, though Cain probably hasn't quite reached that status yet (it's hard to do it with the NL's worst run support every year). You have to like the Giants' value at +104 here. Sure, it's risky betting against Peavy , but any time a pitcher like Cain is an "underdog," it's tempting to go with him. Cain has been stellar against the Padres in his career, sporting a 2.92 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .197 opponents average and 94 strikeouts in 95 innings. That's not a small sample either—it's over 15 starts. Peavy has been solid against the Giants in MLB betting (12-8, 3.24) over his career, but online betting fans should take Cain for a spin tonight.
Online betting pick: Giants +104
