MLB Betting - Tuesday Baseball Picks

The NFL betting preseason takes a day off on Tuesday, so it's time to make some baseball picks. Can the Tigers and Dodgers retain their division leads?

Seattle Mariners @ Detroit Tigers
Tuesday, August 18, 7:05 p.m. ET
Felix Hernandez (12-4, 2.72) vs Rick Porcello (10-7, 4.34)

Thanks to his impossible-to-hit stuff, Felix Hernandez is enjoying the best season of his career to date, and he's a big reason why Seattle's Wildcard hopes are (barely) intact. He really has Detroit's number this year, going 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 13 innings. Also worth noting: there may not be a better road pitcher in the game this season. King Felix is 8-1 with a 1.96 ERA away from SAFECO Field. Simply amazing.

Interestingly, Tigers rookie Rick Porcello is 2-0 against
Seattle this season. However, he's been less picture-perfect, allowing three homers and six earned runs over 12 innings in those starts. There's no point betting against Felix.

Best betting management pick: Mariners

St. Louis Cardinals @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Tuesday, August 18, 10:10 p.m. ET
Mitchell Boggs (1-1, 3.78) vs Chad Billingsley (11-6, 3.73)

Can Mitchell Boggs do the unthinkable and down the mighty Dodgers in L.A.? It's a real crapshoot. He can't hit the plate -- 20 walks in 33 innings!? -- but he misses plenty of bats and finds a way to pitch out of jams. Chances are, a good hitting group like L.A. will punish his mistakes more than most teams. Then again, Boggs should get lots of run support. Matt Holliday is hitting an eye-popping .459 with five homers and 22 RBI in 21 games since the Cards acquired him. He also has three homers and five RBI in just 18 career at-bats against Chad Billingsley. With Boggs facing off against the ace Billingsley, the Dodgers will be big favorites at home. Why not take a baseball picks flier on St. Louis, one of the hottest teams in the majors right now?

Best betting management pick: Cardinals
