Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Diamondbacks take on the Phillies, the Cardinals try to defeat the Dodgers, and the Blue Jays play host to the Red Sox.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

It'll be Dan Haren (12-7, 2.50 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (3-0, 1.13 ERA in the NL) on Wednesday as the Diamondbacks take on the Phillies in the night's marquee pitching matchup. Righthander Haren dominated the Dodgers last time out, holding them to one earned run on six hits over eight innings in the win. Lefthander Lee continued to pay dividends for the Phillies in his last start, giving up just one earned run over eight innings vs. the Cubs; Lee last lost on July 10.

Elsewhere around the National League on Wednesday it'll be Milwaukee at Pittsburgh, Colorado at Washington, San Francisco at Cincinnati, Atlanta at the Mets, Florida at Houston, the Cubs at San Diego, and St. Louis at the Dodgers. Adam Wainwright (14-7, 2.62 ERA) will get the ball for the Cardinals; the righthander blanked the Padres over seven innings last time out. The Dodgers counter with Clayton Kershaw (8-7, 2.91 ERA);
L.A. has lost his last five outings.

Over in the American League the top matchup has Boston and Clay Buchholz (1-3, 4.45 ERA) taking on Toronto and Roy Halladay (13-5, 2.65 ERA). Righthander Buchholz took a hard-luck loss against the Tigers last time out, surrendering one earned run on five hits over his seven innings of work. Buchholz beat the Jays back on July 17. Righthander Halladay has won two straight starts over the Rays and Orioles, and he picked up a complete-game victory over Boston on July 19.

Rounding out the AL slate for Wednesday: the Angels at Cleveland, Seattle at Detroit, Baltimore at Tampa Bay, Minnesota at Texas, the Yankees at Oakland, and Kansas City at the White Sox. Royals starter Zack Greinke (11-7, 2.33 ERA) held the Tigers scoreless over seven innings last time out, but still took a no-decision; the righthander has just one win since the start of July. The White Sox go with Jose Contreras (4-11, 5.40 ERA) as he tries to keep a spot in the rotation.

Last night The Great One went to the chalk more than usual, but one does not pay juice when one wins and Stevie sweeps again. ALERT: the founder of forensic sports handicapping has his both his first Level 5 side and total going this weekend in NFLX.

Tipping off on the hardwood  . . .

There are two WNBA games on tap for Wednesday, with
New York at Connecticut and Minnesota at Los Angeles. The Lynx have been one of the coldest teams in the league lately, losing three straight contests to sit at 11-13 both straight-up and against-the-spread on the season. Minnesota fell 79-76 to Chicago last time out, despite 25 points from Roneeka Hodges. The Lynx last played the Sparks July 28, and they were defeated by a score of 76-70 at home.
