Bodog Previews MLB and NHL Playoff Card For Monday

It's the sports betting world according to Bodog to help bettors make picks in line with the top baseball handicappers in the world

The New York Yankees (-130) will look to continue their fine play on MLB baseball odds when they face the Detroit Tigers on Monday evening.

Sergio Mitre (0-0, 2.79 ERA) will get the call for New York. He's made five appearances this season, all out of the bullpen. The righty got touched up last week, allowing two runs in 2.1 innings of work.

Mitre has never faced the Detroit Tigers in his career. Although he's worked only in relief this season, he does have 61 career starts to his credit.

Dontrelle Willis (1-1, 3.99 ERA) will start for the Tigers. The southpaw was last seen against Minnesota, when he surrendered three runs in 5.1 innings of work. Detroit lost the game 4-3.

Willis has faced the Yanks just once in his career but pitched very well; he went eight innings strong, allowing just two runs and striking out six batters.

The Chicago White Sox have easily been one of the disappointments in Major League Baseball this season – right along with their North Side rival Cubs – so the time might be at hand for the Pale Hose to start making some major moves. And the first of those might be at closer.

The White Sox enter play Monday at 13-19 and already eight games behind the Twins in the AL Central. With the way the Yankees and Rays are playing, it's pretty obvious the wild card will come from the AL East again this season, so Chicago's only path to the playoffs is to win its division.

Toronto took three of four over the weekend at U.S. Cellular, with the cruelest blow coming Sunday when Chicago closer Bobby Jenks allowed four runs in the ninth inning, turning a two-run lead into a 9-7 loss. It was Jenks' first blown save in six opportunities, but he has allowed 19 hits in 12 innings. Jenks (1-1, 6.75 ERA) also gave up a go-ahead home run in Friday's game against Toronto in the ninth inning, a game eventually won by the Jays 7-4 in 12 innings.

Manager Ozzie Guillen didn't hide his feelings (as he never does):

"We have a lot of options, and we are going to search for ones," Guillen said. "Maybe the next couple of days I might use someone different just to see if Bobby can regroup and come back to his form."

It's likely that Guillen would turn to either former Mariners closer J.J. Putz or lefty Matt Thornton, who has been dominant so far in his role (25 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings). Chicago is off Monday but starts a two-game series with the Twins on Tuesday – bet on the game with Bodog's MLB Odds

The Boston Red Sox (-180) are coming off a lost series to the Yankees, but they'll get a chance to turn it around on MLB baseball odds against the Toronto Blue Jays.

John Lackey (3-1, 3.99 ERA) will start for Boston. He's coming off an excellent effort in a 3-1 win over his former team, the Angels; Lackey allowed just two hits and one run in seven innings of work.

The righthander has faced the Toronto Blue Jays 11 times in his career. Lackey is 3-3 with a nice 3.31 ERA in those meetings.

Brandon Morrow (2-2, 5.40 ERA) will start for Toronto. The righty has pitched pretty solid if unspectacular over his last three starts, including last week's 5-4 win over Cleveland. He allowed three runs in 5.1 innings.

Morrow has pitched nine times against Boston, though only one was a start. He has a 3.60 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 15 innings.

Onward to NHL Playoffs Odds previews.

The Boston Bruins will get a second shot at eliminating the Philadelphia Flyers from the NHL playoffs when they meet in Game 5 on Monday. The Bruins are -145 favorites.

The Flyers won 5-4 in overtime in Game 4, winning with -145 odds. The game was a wild one and went over the total after the last two games results in a push. Simon Gagne, who hadn't played in the series with a toe injury, returned to score the overtime winner. Five different Flyers delivered goals, while defenseman Matt Carle racked up four assists. Mark Recchi scored twice for Boston, which also got goals from Milan Lucic and Michael Ryder.

Brian Boucher got the win in net for Philly, making 33 saves on 37 shots. Tuukka Rask stopped 29 of 34 shots for Boston.

Bodog knows the Penguins-Canadiens is also on tap in addition to the Bruins-Flyers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will try closing out their series with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. The Pens are favored on NHL playoff odds at -175.

Pittsburgh took care of business as a -270 favorite on Saturday, winning 2-1. The back end came through for the Penguins, as defensemen Sergei Gonchar and Kris Letang each potted goals. Gonchar also added an assist, while Mike Cammalleri scored the lone Montreal goal. Perhaps more important was the play of Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 32 saves—including 14 in the third period—and was chosen as the game's top star.

Montreal goalie Jaroslav Halak also played well, stopping 23 of the 25 pucks he faced. The combined performance by Fleury and Halak was enough to keep the game under the total for the fourth straight game between these teams. The over is 5.5 for Game 6.
