If I've seen it once I've seen it a thousand times, a pitcher comes back from a long injury and looks great in his initial start. Everybody is so upbeat and positive swearing how that hurler is back and then bam. The second start does not come nearly as easily and everybody realizes that it's just not going to be as easy as they thought the day before. That is the case here with Jeff Francis.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Francis pre injury as this kid was awesome. The southpaw had all the makings of being a great pitcher with his stuff and that was including pitching half the time in the thin air of Coors Field. But he's been out too long to just come back and not skip a beat. I do still like Francis, even today, but he's clearly not going to be the same guy and it's a tall task today.
Kyle Davies is very feast or famine and not a guy that one could ever fully trust but the righthander has been pretty good of late and at home here plus some money is worth a play. The Royals are not going anywhere this season but after the firing things have been better. Billy Butler and the Royals are not exactly a powerful juggernaut and are inferior when compared to the Rockies but Colorado is not great and in this weird American League type spot can fall on their collective faces a bit.
The DH is in play and the home Royals should be feeling comfortable so getting back a little money against the oft-injured lefthander is fine with me.
