Dallas-Phoenix UNDER 206

This is one of the top sharp versus squares games.  That means most of the sharp money is going one way and most of the sucker money the other way according to our offshore, Vegas and “outlaw” contacts.  We go with the sharp money.

The defensive intensity has clearly gone up and each team has made the adjustments they needed to make, which were on defense.

Minny is 7-19 on the road.  The home team is 35-16 in their games. LAA is 6-1 their last seven. Ervin has been magic at home as the Halos are 4-1 with Santana at home and his ERA is 2.78 with a WHIP of 1.051. In 10 starts overall, his WHIP is only 1.237.

The Twins are hitting .258 their last seven games while LA is hitting .310.

For a Rockies pitcher, Aaron Cook’s numbers are stunning through 10 games has his ERA is 3.39. His personal road record is 3-1. Colorado is 3-1 with Cook. His ERA is 2.89 in his last four.

Colorado is 4-1 in San Diego. San Diego is 1-4 at home with Young whose ERA is 6.31.  The Dads are 4-8 since returning to earth from their long winning streak.

Last year, given the opportunity to stomp out the Pistons’ hopes, the Heat failed to put its foot down after going up 2-1 and didn’t have much of a leg to stand on after going up 3-2 in a series that ultimately led to a seventh-game disappointment. Should the Heat go up 3-1, it would become the 125^th team to do so in an NBA playoff series. Of the previous 124, 116 have advanced. Should the Heat lose, it would surrender the homecourt advantage it gained in the opener in Detroit, and fall into a 2-2 tie in a series that then would feature two of the remaining three games at the Palace of Auburn Hills, with only Friday’s Game 6 remaining at AmericanAirlines Arena.Against that backdrop, it would appear the Heat would have just as much motivation as Detroit tonight. Detroit not only recovered from a 3-2 deficit in the previous round to eliminate Cleveland, but recovered from a 2-1 deficit in last season’s second round against Indiana, a 3-2 deficit in the 2004 second round against New Jersey and a 3-1 first-round deficit in 2003 against Orlando.

We have to love the idea of going with an 18-7 home team as a home underdog to a 8-16 road team. The home team is 7-1 in Oswalt’s last eight.  In fact Oswalt has lost his last three road starts, all laying 150 or more.  Meanwhile, the better-than-he’s-shown and hence undervalued Jason Marquis is finally turning it around as he’s on an 0-3 run with a .857 WHIP in that span.

Dallas has been a rugged road squad this postseason. The Mavericks are 4-2, and the losses came by a combined three points at San Antonio.But the Suns have proven to be resilient. In the first round, they stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers. In the second round, against the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix answered three losses with victories. As the Suns regroup for Game 3, they don’t expect forward Raja Bell to be available. Bell missed Game 2 with a strained left calf. D’Antoni said Bell underwent an MRI, and the team was waiting for the results. Bell’s absence creates defensive problems for the Suns, who have conceded a league-worst 109.8 points a game in the playoffs. Phoenix is also looking for a way to replace his offense. Guard Leandro Barbosa, who started in Bell’s spot Friday night, is 4-for-22 from the floor in the series, including 2-for-9 from 3-point range. Barbosa emerged as an offensive weapon in his third season, shooting 44.4 percent from 3-point range, best on the Suns and third in the NBA. But he’s shooting only 34.5 percent from beyond the arc in 16 playoff games.

Talk about a reverse of fortune. After a 3-21 start to Barry Zito, Texas has beaten him twice in a row. However it’s a long time coming as Zito has a 5.98 ERA in his last eight starts to Texas.

Loe has a 2.07 ERA in his last two starts to Oakland. Oakland has lost 3-of-4 on the road with Zito.

Remember this pick is on the runline.  KC hit a new low last night getting destroyed after blowing a big lead, they face a team needing to take out some frustrations.  Their last seven games have been multiple run losses, with six by three or more. KC is being outscored 6.4-3.8 and they are only getting worse.

Elarton has a 6.62 ERA last three starts while Mussina in 10 starts has a sparkling .995 WHIP.

They face a Yankee team hitting .289 at home with an OPB of .377.  We see a five run blowout.
