Miami-Florida State
Here are news and notes from the JoeDuffy.net private clipboard. They are compiled from hometown newspapers and the team’s own press releases.

What’s on the other side are eight games in Tallahassee_the most in school history_and road trips to Duke, North Carolina State and Maryland, none of whom had a winning league record last season. The ‘Noles’ most daunting foes, after Miami, must travel to Doak Campbell Stadium: Clemson, Boston College and Florida. After Oct. 14 there is just one road game, and the post-Thanksgiving matchup with Florida caps an entire month of home games in November. The Gators are FSU’s only preseason top-10 opponent, and Miami and Clemson the only other teams in the top 25. FSU heads to South Florida a three-point underdog; it could be the last time the Seminoles aren’t favored until Nov. 25. And given that that is a home game, they likely will be favored against UF, too.

The Seminoles pulled out last year’s nearly unwatchable Labor Day showdown 10-7 and, though not without setbacks, won the inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference title game. The score should be higher this time. Florida State might be capable of more production with QB Drew Weatherford now seasoned and with a veteran — and healthy — line in front of him. If the Seminoles are moving the ball, it will usually be in the hands of WR Greg Carr or RB Lorenzo Booker. Hurricanes FS Brandon Meriweather must use his speed to keep tabs on everyone. QB Kyle Wright is back for Miami, but the rest of the offense is in disarray with departures and suspensions. His best weapon could be TE Greg Olsen, who will try to occupy Florida State LB Buster Davis.
