Evan Turner may be the best player in the entire country and
The Wildcats are looking for their first NCAA berth ever and the way things have gone thus far they very well may get it. Bill Carmody appears to be a legitimate as heck coach as he lost his best player in Kevin Coble and still has this perennial doormat program at 13-4 with quality victories under their belts.
John Shurna and Michael Thompson are blowing up in a good way and we just saw that one more time in the upset of a borderline great Purdue team the other night. The 'Cats may not be playing the ridiculous low scoring 51-47 games we used to see but they certainly can clamp down with the best of them and just held Purdue to under 36% shooting from the field.
Carmody's crew has now beaten the Boilermakers along with Notre Dame,
All of the above may amount to a hill of beans today as the Buckeyes have the potential to win this game going away thanks to Turner but this is a fairly tough spot for Thad Matta's squad. Northwestern is still thought of a bit as "Northwestern" and after just winning a few games ago in that great comeback in Purdue and then in the last game outclassing Wisconsin and with a top 15 or so opponent in West Virginia on deck we could see a semi flat performance from the home boys as they just go through the motions a bit in a pedestrian type single digit victory.
A lot of college athletics is about emotions and I'm not so sure that we will see State bring that A-game today in this sandwich type situation.
