Football Handicapping Services: Troy Will Get Beaten Out by Middle Tennessee in Sun Belt

Some call them the real "Men of Troy". Will the small college powerhouse continue dominating the Sun Belt Conference?

Our barrage of college football previews continue today, beginning with your 2010 Troy preview.

Troy has been a powerhouse, winning at least a portion of four straight Sun Belt titles—but this year, things could change. There were numerous exits, none bigger than quarterback Levi Brown and offensive coordinator Neal Brown. The defensive line is also quite suspect, as it will field four new starters in 2010.

It's not all bad. Running backs DuJuan Howard and Shawn Southwad combined for 22 scores last season, while receiver Jerrel Jernigan (71 catches, 1101 yards, four touchdowns in 2009) should give new quarterback Jamie Hampton something to work with. The offensive line should also be solid as three starters return for another tour of duty. Defensively, the secondary has a few potential stars in the mix, and the linebacking corps is raw but deep.

Grandmaster Sports Handicapper Joe Duffy's expert take: Troy has the tradition, but Middle Tennessee has the talent. It's a two-horse race in the Sun Belt, but MTSU edges out Troy for the title.
