NBA

PHILADELPHIA -1.5 LA Clippers

Call it a bizarre coincidence, but just as Denver has played worse since getting Allen Iverson, the Sixers have played much better. They are 7-4 their last 11 SU, including consecutive wins at home.

In the midst of a brutal road trip, the LA Clippers have failed miserably losing their last three by 12 twice and 17. “Our confidence has grown,” Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said yesterday after practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Certainly, when you win games, the confidence is going to grow.

“I thought our guys, even though we didn’t get the results that we wanted [earlier this season], continued to play and continued to stay with the program.”

Two developments have helped the Sixers. One is Cheeks’ decision to start his two centers - 6-foot-11 Samuel Dalembert and 7-foot Steven Hunter - in the same lineup. The Sixers are 7-4 since Jan. 19, the first time the two big men started together.

Another development is the acquisition of point guard Andre Miller in the trade that sent Allen Iverson to Denver. Miller has been in the lineup for exactly half of the Sixers’ 50 games, and the team is 11-14. The Sixers were 6-19 before he arrived.
