North Carolina State found ways to overcome an extremely short bench in its recent wins against Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

 

But after looking worn out in the final minutes of a loss to Georgia Tech, coach Sidney Lowe might have to start worrying a little more about how much his players have left in the tank.

With five players averaging more than 30 minutes per game, the first-year coach said Friday he has resorted to shortening practices to save his players’ legs. He’s also hoping to find more contributors off the bench heading into today’s game at Miami.

 

“They’ve never complained,” Lowe said. “They’ve just continued to fight and dig and believe in themselves. It’s something where ... we are who we are. You just strap it up and go.”

Four players have accounted for 82 percent of NC State’s points.  Late in the year and on the road, it will catch up to them.

 

This is a big sandwich game.  State stunned Virginia Tech and UNC only to give up 18 straight points and lose to GA Tech.  Now Maryland and a rematch with VA Tech are on the horizon, so this is a super tough spot.
