Wise Guy…

TENNESSEE -4.5 Vanderbilt

The No. 23 Commodores (16-7, 6-3 SEC East) are 3-4 away from home, while the Volunteers (16-8, 4-5 East) are 12-0 on their home court, posting wins over Memphis, Texas, Georgia and most recently, 70-67 over LSU on Tuesday.

Leading scored Chris Lofton is back for Tennessee and a game under his belt and returns for a home game. We look for them to remain undefeated at home.

MISSISSIPPI -5 Alabama

Alabama has just two road wins. Ole Miss has had six days to prepare for this one. The Rebels, who are 11-1 at home, have won two straight and three of their last four, including last Saturday's road win at then West leader Auburn to snap an 11-game road SEC losing streak.

Ole Miss is peaking now because they did take time to adjust to a new coach and a new system, but it all has worked out great.

This is not the Alabama that was ranked in the top five for much of the season. Point Ronald Steele has been injured, center Jermareo Davidson has struggled at times and the Tide has been vulnerable.

Even their three-game streak has been built on narrow come-from-behind victories, including a last-shot 80-79 win over Mississippi State on Wednesday.

Not only did the Rebels have an off week, allowing more preparation for Alabama than most teams get, but the Crimson Tide next plays top-ranked Florida a game that could draw their attention away from Oxford.

Perhaps more importantly, the Rebels used a little of their free time to work on themselves.

``We got a little head start on (preparing for) them, but the first couple of days it was a lot of looking at ourselves and things we could do to give our kids a better chance to be successful and also to really show them a lot of tapes of ourselves so we could make some improvements,'' Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said.

The Rebels also have a little more motivation than usual.

``With one more win we'll guarantee ourselves a winning season and we don't have anybody on our team that has experienced that at a Division I level,'' Kennedy said. ``With that comes some understanding that it takes a little bit of time, but I've been really pleased with our guys and their attitudes and their ability to continue to grow as a group.''

KENTUCKY +4.5 Florida

Yes Florida is the only undefeated road team in the SEC but coach Billy Donovan has pointed out the difficulty of the road ahead for Florida: At Kentucky, at Vanderbilt, at LSU and at Tennessee. He called the rest of the season "maybe the most difficult and challenging second half we've ever had since I've been here."

This marks the third time a UK opponent has brought the No. 1 ranking into Rupp Arena. The Wildcats defeated top-ranked Indiana, 69-58, during the 1979-80 season. The most recent No. 1 to visit the Bluegrass was Florida in February 2003. UK used a blistering defensive attack to down the Gators, 70-55, in the Wildcats last matchup with a top-ranked foe.

In SEC play, Kentucky and Florida are either first or second in scoring offense, scoring defense, field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense. Yet we have a road favorite in one of the toughest arenas to win in the world.

GEORGETOWN -7.5 Marquette

We just don’t see Marquette having an answer for Georgetown’s inside game. As Marquette looks to extend their Big East winning streak, they can expect a more hostile crowd than usual as the Hoyas celebrate "100 Years of College Basketball" and will be announcing the Georgetown Basketball All-Century team.

Combining the Hoya’s offensive efficiency and defensive proficiency has led to a scoring margin of +11.1 ppg, which is tied for first in the conference with Pittsburgh. (MU ranks a distant third at +4.8 ppg.). That difference is overall, but now Marquette heads to the road where of course the difference is more pronounced.

WRIGHT STATE +4 Butler

Wright State is hot; slightly more rested and has done well in the series.  But they are the home underdog. With six straight victories, this could be the first WSU team to win seven straight since the 1990-91 team. Although the Raiders lost to Butler by 31 the last time they played, WSU won six of the previous seven games against the Bulldogs. Only one of those games was decided by more than eight points.

Major…

LOUISIANA TECH +9 Hawaii

This is one of the top sharp versus squares games.  That means most of the sharp money is going one way and most of the sucker money the other way according to our offshore, Vegas and “outlaw” contacts.  We go with the sharp money.

LOYOLA CHICAGO +2.5 Wisconsin Green Bay

This is one of the top sharp versus squares games.  That means most of the sharp money is going one way and most of the sucker money the other way according to our offshore, Vegas and “outlaw” contacts.  We go with the sharp money.

NEBRASKA +6.5 Texas A&M

Saturday's trip to Nebraska looks like a trap. Sandwiched between emotional games against Texas and Texas Tech (on Feb. 13), it's not a stretch to think the Aggies might not be as focused for a frigid trip to Lincoln. A&M's three losses have been on the road, and Nebraska (14-8, 3-5) isn't bad - especially at home, where the Huskers are 9-2.

A year slowed by injuries has seen Nebraska coach Doc Sadler making adjustments, even slowing down the tempo.  The Huskers have responded with two huge road wins at Missouri and Texas Tech in their last two contests.

MIAMI FLORIDA +1.5 NC State

North Carolina State found ways to overcome an extremely short bench in its recent wins against Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

But after looking worn out in the final minutes of a loss to Georgia Tech, coach Sidney Lowe might have to start worrying a little more about how much his players have left in the tank.

With five players averaging more than 30 minutes per game, the first-year coach said Friday he has resorted to shortening practices to save his players’ legs. He’s also hoping to find more contributors off the bench heading into today’s game at Miami.

“They’ve never complained,” Lowe said. “They’ve just continued to fight and dig and believe in themselves. It’s something where ... we are who we are. You just strap it up and go.”

Four players have accounted for 82 percent of NC State’s points.  Late in the year and on the road, it will catch up to them.

This is a big sandwich game.  State stunned Virginia Tech and UNC only to give up 18 straight points and lose to GA Tech.  Now Maryland and a rematch with VA Tech are on the horizon, so this is a super tough spot.

Denver-Milwaukee OVER

We do post the system as written and the database does count the system twice because in theory it applies to both teams. It is still statistically significant. When both teams are hitting less than 33 percent from three-point range, it has gone over 1026-776.
