TEXAS A&M -13 Texas Tech
First of all, Texas A&M has won five straight by an average of 13 points per game, but the most narrow win was probably their most impressive—a three-point victory at Kansas. Now they face a reeling Tech team off five straight wins, three by double digits, another at home to
Top players and teams respond to horrible games. Such is the case with A&M’s sharpshooter. Texas A&M is far more difficult to defend when sophomore swingman Josh Carter is burning the nets.
In the Aggies’ three losses this season—LSU, UCLA and Texas Tech—Carter combined for 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting from the field and 1-of-7 from the 3-point line.
The Big 12-leading Aggies (21-3, 9-1 Big 12), who remained No. 6 in The Associated Press poll for the second consecutive week, get another shot at Tech (15-10, 4-6) tonight, and Carter, who averages 12.8 points a game, gets a chance to redeem his only scoreless game of the season.
Timing is everything. He’s No. 1 in the nation in 3-point percentage (51.6) and No. 2 in the Big 12 in 3-pointers made (66). His 128 3-point attempts account for 65.3 percent of his shot attempts, and he’s made 40.7 percent of A&M’s 3-pointers.
He enters tonight’s game having scored in double figures in five straight games, one shy of his best streak this season, although that came against five nonconference opponents.
In the last five games, Carter has made 19 of 32 3-pointers (59.4 percent). In the previous five he made just 8-of-23 (34.8 percent), including an 0-for-9 stretch that culminated with 0-for-3 behind the arc at Tech.
