Duke-Butler Preview Overshadows Donovan McNabb Trade

It's an unvarnished big sports day at Bodog. Yes, GodsTips nails Boston Red Sox Opening Day 2010 winner over the NY Yankees as part of a 9-1 tear, it's the Opening Day for most of the rest of MLB on Dyngus Day.

Donovan McNabb was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to Washington Redskins leaving Jason Campbell where he belongs: as a backup.

If you call Butler a mid-major program you are simply wrong, but the Bulldogs have a chance to become the first non-BCS team to win the national championship since UNLV in 1990 (those Rebels beat Duke by the way). Is Butler good or lucky? Certainly both, as the Bulldogs have the nation's longest winning streak after beating Michigan State in the Final Four on Saturday night, 52-50. It was Butler's 25th win in a row.

However, the Bulldogs have opened as 6.5-point underdogs NCAA Basketball Odds  against Duke for Monday night's title game. And there's almost no chance that one of Butler's trends will continue. The Bulldogs became the fourth team in NCAA tournament history (first since 1985) to hold its first five opponents under 60 points. The Dukies have way too much offense for that to happen again. Of course, Butler will have the proverbial home-court advantage with its campus just a jump shot away from Lucas Oil Stadium. Not to take anything away from Butler, but it has played Syracuse without one of its best players (Arinze Onuaku) and Michigan State without its best (Kalin Lucas).

Duke's Big 3 of Jon Scheyer, Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler were all at the top of their games in the shockingly easy 21-point win over West Virginia on Saturday. Scheyer, especially, seems to have broken out of his slump with 23 points against the Mountaineers. WVU had had allowed just an average of 57.8 points and 33.8  percent shooting in the first four games of this tournament, but Duke scored 78 and shot 52.7 percent. The Blue Devils also hit 13 three-pointers after WVU had allowed just 17 during the first four rounds.

Perhaps the most glaring stat is that Butler has been outrebounded in two of its past three games, while Duke has killed it on the glass this tournament – the Blue Devils outrebounded WVU 27-24 and the Mountaineers were in the Top 10 in the nation in rebound margin. The Dukies also will have a major size advantage. Look for Coach Mike Krzyzewski to win his first national title since 2001. Bet it at Bodog
