Going against Adam Wainwright these days is almost suicidal as the tall righthander is that good. But the Cardinals just looked awful in Colorado and now are seriously reeling coming into Houston.
The Astros have a mediocre hurler on the hill in Bud Norris and are very mediocre at best overall but when this guy sees the red St. Louis uniforms something just clicks. In four career starts against the Redbirds Norris has been beyond lights out. It's actually scary how tough this average pitcher has been on Albert and the fellas, Of course this will come to an end at some point and tonight may be that night but Norris was really good in that last start in San Diego and at home here should at least be pretty solid against a team that he has completely dominated.
The Cardinals are struggling and need to focus in this series as the Reds are starting to run away a bit in the division so I do expect Tony LaRussa's club to come out fired up but things have just not gone well of late. The Cards skunked me yesterday as I thought they would be good enough behind their other ace in Chris Carpenter but it just did not happen.
St. Louis' bullpen was just awful in Colorado and now the bats shouldn't be firing away as leaving the thin air of Coors and going to the next ballpark is never an easy proposition.
Wainwright is good enough to end this skid as the former Brave minor leaguer has Cy Young type stuff. But $2 or so on the road with a scuffling ballclub in a spot like this, win or lose, is a little too hefty.
