NCAA Football Betting – Fiesta Bowl Preview

While most sports wagering people may not notice this right off the hop, but if the TCU Horned Frogs blow out the Boise State Broncos and the Texas Longhorns barely squeak by the Alabama Crimson Tide, there is still a chance that the Horned Frogs could be voted as AP National Champions. That will be an underlying storyline as the game approaches.

How They Got Here: TCU Horned Frogs

The TCU Horned Frogs had a banner year in 2009 and earned a BCS berth with a perfect 12-0 season. It's the second straight year that internet betting sharps will see a Mountain West team in the BCS.

The Horned Frogs started the year with a bang, trouncing Virginia on the road and then outlasting Clemson on the road just two weeks later. While the Virginia win didn't do much for them, the Clemson one did as the Tigers went on to play in the ACC Championship Game.

TCU swept conference play including two absolute beat downs of No. 16 Brigham Young (38-7) and No. 16 Utah (55-28). Aside from the Clemson game (14-10) and the Air Force game (20-17), TCU blew out every single one of its opponents.

How They Got Here: Boise State Broncos

The Boise State Broncos also starting well with a win over Oregon on national television. While they didn't know it at the time, Boise State had just beat a team that would be heading to the Rose Bowl and a team that would go on to beat USC, Oregon State and Arizona, which all helped Boise State's cause in the rankings.

Aside from the one win against Oregon, Boise State had virtually no other credible wins. They swept a weak WAC schedule and the only other win worth mentioning was a 44-33 win over Nevada.

The Matchup

This will be an interesting game as between the two teams, Boise State has the better win but overall, TCU played a much tough schedule. That's exactly why the Horned Frogs are a touchdown favorite in the sportsbook.

The Horned Frogs have been very impressive this year and finished with the No. 1 defense nationally. That can't be overlooked in this game. But unlike previous years, this team is not just a defensive juggernaut. The offense also ranked high, finish No. 4 overall.

Combined with the fact that the Broncos will not be on their smurf turf, the Horned Frogs should win big in the Fiesta Bowl.

Sportsbook 101 Pick: TCU -7
