ELON +3.5 Pennsylvania

Penn has some major injuries. Sophomore Darren Smith, one of just two returning starters for this year's team, was lost for the season after he fractured his patella (right knee) in the first half of the season opener against Drexel.

Smith's injury is actually the second this season to knock the Quakers for a loop; prior to the season, junior Tommy McMahon had surgery which is forcing him to miss the 2007-08 season. He has been plagued by back problems during his first two seasons at Penn, but was expected to be a major contributor.

Meanwhile, Elon has snuck up on teams because they have a breakout player that the oddsmakers have not caught up to.

Ola Atoyebi's enters tonight's matchup at Pennsylvania, Elon's second leg of a five-game stint away from home, having supplied an average of 19.3 points in his last four outings.

"We need Ola game-in and game-out," senior guard Montell Watson said, "and he's shown himself this year. He's stepped up a lot."

Atoyebi's 15.4 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 60.8 percent shooting this season are production numbers that do more than rank him among the early Southern Conference statistical leaders.

They also reveal a substantial leap forward in status.

Two seasons ago, Atoyebi appeared in two games and attempted a grand total of one shot from the field. He made it, for the record.
